Small sites - nice loos / showers - N Wales

Looking for recommendations - for small quiet sites (but with decent space for all), room for ball games etc, north Wales, nice scenery, no need to book

(don't ask for much do I ?? )

the plassey is supposed to be nice but not been myself.

Pixiefish · 27/05/2007 21:45

The Plassey isn't small though. It has a swimming pool, pub, shops, is quite commercial (although still nice)

Have you joined the caravan Club as they have lists of CL sites which would probably fir the bill.\Where abouts in North Wales do you want?

Whizzz · 27/05/2007 21:54

nope looked at Plassey - toooooo big

Not far away from borders - not Colwyn Bay / Rhyl. Conway ish maybe ??

Not familiar with there Whizzz but I could possibly help you with Anglesey.

Whizzz · 27/05/2007 22:13

Anglessey would be OK - we wanted something not too far from home - just in case !!

Total novices so we don't want loads of seasoned campers laughing at us struggling to put up the tent

Ah whizzz, they may be seasoned campers NOW but i can assure you that everyone has a 'first time'.

I was so nervous about putting up a tent for the first time last year that i practised in the garden first with the one i borrowed. This year, i have done the same, only just stopping short of smearing it with mud and swopping a guy-rope here and there for that I-Am-A-Seasoned-Camper look.

We are off to Wales later this week - Shell Island has some great reviews and will be quieter after tomorrow. No need to book, loads of room, sand dunes, nice views of mountains.

Whizzz · 27/05/2007 22:28

yess - have seen Shell Island, looks great but wanted to start smaller

So the biggest campsite in Europe doesnt quite match the 'small' requirement then? ;)

You could always hide in one of the sand dunes...

Nant Peris campsite in Llanberis pass. Never stopped there myself but have driven past.

The Dolgam campsite in Capel Curig. Again never stopped there, but have used the showers there lots as I used to live near there and had no shower or bath in my house! They have good showers

Pixiefish · 28/05/2007 07:53

Agree that Shell Island would be good. I know its big but it doesn't seem it once you're there. Plus I'd rather have loads to do on site which Shell Island has.

There are loads of sites on Anglesey but the ones that I have seen are fairly big. There's a Rhos something in pentraeth which isn't toooooooo big but is fairly central for Bangor and Anglesey

Nemo2007 · 28/05/2007 11:42

We went to shell islands as virgins. It was fine and you can hide as it is all hilly and secluded so you can pitch where nobody else is..lol

Whizzz · 28/05/2007 12:45

If you pick an isolated spot though, is it not miles to the loos??

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 28/05/2007 14:06

Everybody is far from the loos at Shell Island though. They have a rule about having to be a certain distance from other campers and iirc the loos are near the shops.

Whizzz · 28/05/2007 17:23

We are only looking (at the mo to stay 2 nights max) so not worried about things to do really. Its just a trial run for us & some friends
