look for a rating of 2000 - 3000 on the waterproofness.

hydrostatic head I think is what you are looking for. I am pretty sure some of the campers will not go below 2000, preferably 3000

Is the same with sleeping bags? I am going away in july, however it peed down july so can anyone reccomenned a good place to get a decent sleeping bag. I thing the tent is okay...hopefully.

You should get the highest hh you can afford. Our tent has a hh of 5000 and we have just been away in it this weekend and no leaks at all, our last tent was only 2000 and we had leaks in bad weather.
