Has anyone been to the Green Man Festival in Wales?

they have not camped before, is it a nightmare of no sleep and stress?

Yup, have just bought my ticket for second year running.

Ds was just 3 when we went last year. We also went with other friends so had, between us, kids of 2, 3 (x2!), 4 and 7. And even though it pissed with rain the entire time, we all LOVED IT.

I hadn't camped for donkey's years and ds had never done so. Can't deny it was a bit chilly and damp but it definitely wasn't stressful at all. The kids had a whale of a time and slept like logs at night - all that fresh air and running around.

The site is small and gorgeous, very family-oriented. It's like being in someone's really big back garden! There's a specific 'family' camping area I think but we just pitched with everyone else. It's quite a 'naice' well-behaved festival, no drunken louts...a fair bit of late-night bongo playing but that's festivals for you, I guess...

Great kid's area, puppetmaking, crafty stuff, shows, sciencey things. Lots of little crafty stalls - FABULOUS food (no, honestly!)

I would have no hesitation in recommending it. Ds can't wait to go back (and nor can I)

did you go on the tHURSDY or turn up on the fRIDAY?

How many peeps go, dd1 is a bit of a sensitive flower and would combust at Glastonbury so I am hoping this is small

I've heard it's small and very lovely. It's been recommended by two families I know who both have small children under 5. They love it, and I think are going this year as well.

Would love to go myself but don't think DH would be up for it.

We turned up on the Friday about midday-ish (as an old acquaintance was just finishing his set, in fact...) and easily got a good pitch. Might try Thursday this year if I can get the time off work.

It's fine for sensitive flowers. I think they have made more tickets available this year - last year it was about 6000 people, I think. May be more like 10 000 this year. In other words, absolutely miniscule compared to Glastonbury! Never felt overcrowded at all.

I used to do all the festivals BACK WHEN I HAD A LIFE (grrr) and I want to start doing it again now the girls are a bit older

do I need to take about a million layers to sleep in?

I am going to try and pull in some old favours and blag it and then maybe hire a tent - there is a link on the site - so you can turn up with everything already laid out for you! [spoilt]

Rain ruins these things though doesn't it?

I was tempted by hiring a tent too. Am a lazy mare.

Sunshine would be marvellous. The drizzle was fine but I ached like an octogenarian by the time I got home

last time I camped was round Australia in 40 degrees heat without children so this will be a change

Glastonbury was grim when raining

my little pumpkin (dd2) has just woken up for a cuddle - I swear I could set my watch - so I will be off now

Blimey, tent hire, what luxury

we haven't got a 3 man tent so will need to acquire / borrow / beg one somehow - is the tent hire service specific to the Green Man Fest?

hi i went to greenmn with ds aged almost two and then last year when he was almost three.

the site last year was fantastic..as snaf says very 'naice'...without losing too much in the way of festival-ness.

we didnt get in the family section for camping either...not sure how much difference it made...though we were surrounded by bongo players etc

your kids will LOVE it there is SO much laid on for teh children...and teh grounds are a wonderland....there is a slope that my boy played on for hours and hours....ditto a little stream...puppet shows...other children...etc etc etc to fade.

you can eat in a range of 'world kitchens'...cooked breakfasts,free fruit for kids...poncey teas the works ...all tastes catered for...at a price but very convenient (i didnt cos im tight)

all in all its great ...though as it was just dp , me and shortie (ds)...we never had anytime to really enjoy teh festival ourselves/together and vowed that next year we would go alone (however i am up the stick and due to drop in august...so no greenman for me)

even if it is a bit of a slog...joanna newsom is headlining and will make everything worth it mark my words.

have a great time...i am so so so so jealous.
