Going away tomorrow for 2 nights of campoing in my new 8 man tent with DSD (6) DS(7) and DD (1).
Any essentials i need? Should i take travel cot for DD or will she be ok in a ready bed and in a grobag?

Fab, where are you going?

There's lots of good camping tips in the threads here, sorry i can't advise re DD. However, remembering my first time, I'd say: lots of warm clothes for night time (I even wore a woolly hat in bed). Beer cools you down more than you realise indoors. Don't sleep on an airbed unless you've arranged some insulation.

You'll have a great time.

good luck. No advice sorry as we are venturing on our first trip in 4 weeks, but will be looking with interest for a report when you get back as to how you got on. And most importantly on what you forgot that you needed.
Wrap up warm though. Have a great time

i suspect dd will end up in bed with you!

Hi - we went with our ds when he was 2 and it was great! For this time of year I'd say insect repelant to ward off the mozzies was a good idea. Air beds worked great for us, Ds was in his own romm in our 4 man tent and it got quite warm in there. He loved it. We put a blanket under the bed cos he kept riggling out and lying on the ground sheet! (He's a hot sleeper!) He got a burn on the cooker after we told him it got really hot - he had to test it to see how hot - oops. Other than that the only other thing that comes to mind was the shower - which he would do at home - but not in a strange place. Someone said use a storage box to make a little bath and that worked great. It was all much easier than I had imagined so have a great time!

Agree with Pesme, the warmest place is with you when camping, it gets bloody cold at night. We've always camped, sometimes for weeks at a time with our babies, but if you're not used to sleeping together you could use a travel cot. They take up a lot of space though. I guess you'll work out what's best for you, everyone's different. Take it in case. They're also really handy as a playpen when you need to do something for a minute, especially if you have a fast mover!

thanks all, we are only going 30 miles from home (thought that best the first time so if any big problems can get back!) Nice campsite though and right on picturesque Rutland water!
Decided to take travel cot as a playpen and see how we get on using a ready bed and gro bag with DD. She will be in with me anyway so can always snuggle up!!
Am currently busy thinking of extra stuff to take and car is chocca already!!!! Think i will end up saying sod it and will just have to learn wont i!!!
OK off to pack warm clothes!!

hi bonkerz, yes definately some warm fleeces socks, and some blanket in case its cool at nights. i would take travel cot, its good to put lo and let them play when you cook and busy with other stuff. im sure weather will be fine during the day. good luck. we will be going in couple of weeks.too

bonkerz · 07/05/2007 11:49

UPDATE, just gpot back! and we all had a fab time. DD slept in cot for few hours but was much happier in ready bed next to me!! Also slept longer that way too! Used our buggy when we needed her to be near. so dont think we will bother with travel cot again.
