Campsite recommendations in Midlands/North West...?

We are biting the bullet and buying a tent next week and planning to go away with another family this holiday. As it will be the first time for all of us we're not going to go too far or for too long - and if either of us girls are going to get DHs to admit it was a fab idea it needs to be to somewhere fabulous!

We come from the Cheshire/Shropshire/Staffordshire borders so the Lakes, Derbyshire, N. Wales or Cotswolds would be easily accessible. Have scrutinised all the threads on camping neccessities and made notes - now just need to find somewhere to go! If anyone can suggest any good sites I'd be eternally grateful...

yamomoto, who posts here sometimes, has a site in the Lakes, that looks lurvely - here . Haven't been but doesn't "The Quiet Site" just make you want to go there???

And look - you could go to the Keswick Pencil Museum - what more could your DHs possibly want?

There's a nice walled campsite at Clumber Park in the Sherwood forest, which is quiet and has a few nice things around to do for children (nice bike rides, etc). Perhaps more somewhere for a weekend, not a whole week though. We quite often go to this one at Bala in north Wales - which is Lakeside and good if you like Watersports, but has steam trains and nice walks nearby even if you don't.

I've stayed on that campsite Lunarsea linked to in Bala. Not for a few years though the site is in a lovely setting, hopefully they have upgraded the shower blocks as they used to be a bit basic.

Oh wow - thanks everso much for all this. The Quiet Site looks great (do you think our communal 6 children might shatter the quiet too much )and I liked the sound of the Clumber Park one because one of the reviewers mentions a teashop selling lovely cakes very nearby. Camping has to have its compensations...

Can't wait to sit down with glass of wine and DH this evening and show him all this, and look more closely at your link, Lemonice. Probably best not to mention the fact that the weather is supposed to be as awful as today all summer long, though.

I know where you live, but the camping and caravan site on Cannock Chase is lovely. Obv you wouldnt want to go there if you lived too close. there is also alot of lovely sites in Ashbourne (not naming because there are so many nice ones you could take your pick!) there is a lovely site on 'the knockerdown' pub nr carsington water, lovely site and great for kids and quiet too.

Janh - think I saw the Keswick Pencil Museum on that Auntie Mabel (Come Outside?) programme once. Utterly fascinating.
Think the DHs may prefer to visit Cars of the Stars, however.
