Ribeyre in the Auvergne- Millimat/Stillwaiting for summer (and anyone else)

I have this site on my radar for next summer. But I am slightly worried about the reviews- trip advisor, not many on ukcampsite etc. It's in a great location, has a nice looking pool and lake. But it's also quite pricey, estimated about 70E a night for all of us and whilst it has a 5 star rating, many reviews don't think it's worth it.

What are the loo blocks like? We have a tent, so will have to use these.
Is there any place on site you think would be better to pitch/avoid? We prefer quieter sections so we can dabble in stuff but not have it on our doorstep.

Any other need to know stuff?

We loved it this summer, after great advice on here.
Was more lie 40 per night with no electric.
Had non hook up pitch opposite open field which wa great for kids playing.
Loo blocks v clean. Shower cubicles good - only had to queue around 7pm ish. We went last 2 weeks of august - stayed 10 days having booked 4 initially.
Lake and canoes are great.
Fab hikes.
Lac chambon and lac pavon are beautiful.
Swimming pool great, entedtainment each evening meant music until 11 which we could hear, but didn't bother us.

...then we went to 15 euro campsite that kkidss said they liked more, despite loving this one!

It was a few years ago that we went. Our pitch was near the picture of the bone, but to be fair I think there are less pitches then than now.
As far as reviews go, it's not as much a touristy place as most other regions of France which is why I assume there are less reviews.
We were very fortunate when we went because the weather was amazing and obviously that makes a huge difference.
IMO campsites in France are not cheap. I'll see if I can find how much we paid.

Toilet blocks were great from what I can remember.
Being in the middle meant it wasn't too far from the lake or the pool, but far enough away from the noise.

Forgot to attach the plan!

Sorting finances was there a hill in the middle of the site (near a toilet block) when you went this year?

profpoopsnagle · 24/09/2017 15:45

Thanks for the replies. I think I am doing my usual overthinking it!
Some of the reviews mention that there are no toilet seats in the blocks which seem a bit Hmm to me, especially for a site that is supposed to have 5 stars.

We'd be quite tempted to get a pitch nearer to the lake if possible- although would this mean we are miles away from everything else on the site? Is the site quite high up? (thinking about views/ how cold it might be at night).

Also, is it possible to walk from here into Murol? Other reviews say the onsite shop is limited, so where's the best place to food shop?

And, last question (possibly!) is about the onsite restaurant. We don't tend to eat out a lot, but it's nice to have a break sometimes!

Kids say yes there was a hill (much bike exploring).
Loads of tarmac'd paths for bikes/scooter/skateboard.
Toilet seats - no. All v clean though, and presumably easier to clean.
Easy cycle in to murol 5/10 mins. 20min walk?
Campsite shop just for fresh bread really. Small spa and casino in murol. Worth stocking up in big supermarket at somepoint.
Campsite does fab looking pizzas for about 10 euros.
And take out chips (great for a change from pasta).

Sortingfinances · 24/09/2017 19:40

Great temperature at night - cooled off about 7pm after hot days. Maybe 13c at night? We had one hoody and jeans each for evenings. Beautiful clear skies.

Sortingfinances · 24/09/2017 19:42

Lake pitches did look nice and no where is very far - only 2/3 mins to walk from one end to other.

Stillwaitingforsummer · 24/09/2017 21:16

We were bothered about midges near the lake but that didn't seem to be a problem.
We didn't walk into murol but had young children. If they were older we could have done. I'm not sure what was there for eating out.

....and Stillwaiting... A belated thank you for recommending the place. We loved it. Fab holiday.

I really really want to go back, but am worried it may not be as good and then ruin the memories from last time!
