Is a 3m bell tent excessive for a single person?

I'm all on my onesome violins and have really enjoyed camping weekends in the past, despite having to make do with a nasty gin-and-herpes-stained pop-up tent bequeathed to me by a festival-going sibling.

Now I've got a bit more money, and space to store/dry a bigger tent... Would a 3 metre bell tent be a bit much for one person? Are they ok to put up and take down by yourself? I might occasionally invite someone else for the weekend - are they ok for two adults?

I very much want to be able to chill in/near the tent in the evenings and possibly indulge in the odd afternoon nap (has been successfully achieved in the herpes-tent before, with earplugs Grin).

I don't think 3m is remotely excessive.

Someone, I think one of the Dutch companies, makes a 3m Bell which doesn't have a centre pole. Which I think makes it better for 2.

Actually I would probably go for 4m. Check the height of any 3m that you look at.

Bell tents are easy to pitch.

I would want a tarp in front of a bell, as a porch / to sit under.

I love camping on my own, a quiet site, fire, wine, stars.

Tiny festival pop ups are horrid! Treat yourself and enjoy!

Quick, OP, look at the SportsDirect sale. They have poly cotton bell tents at a great price!

I don't have a bell tent but who not have a nice big one?? It's not like the site will charge you more. Solo camping is lovely. Go you :)

why not who... and big tent obvs ...

Yes a bit excessive but very nice. They are quite heavy to lug around but a 5m one can be easily put up by a middle aged woman on her own, once you have the knack. You can always use a small cheap pop up tent as a bed chamber.

3 m is easier to lug around than the bigger sizes and I really agree with the sail porch - they turn a so-so wet event into a great one.
Speaking of which, think about transport. Some festivals will not allow cars on site and bell tents are very heavy when wet. So a small wheeled carrier or trug to bung it in can be a godsend.

I love my bell tent. We have a 5m one for the four of us.

I camp on my own and I have a three metre soulpad polycotton bell tent. I love it, there's loads of space, it's bright and airy and really easy to put up singlehandedly.

The herpes tent sounds amazing though....
