DORDOGNE?? ANYONE CAMPED THERE??

We are looking at here under our own steam, with our own tent. But I wanted to get any reviews from MN if poss.

I like the idea of the pools and the river tbh, this is the campsites own site here

Anyone been there, anyone driven down and can advise on an overnight stop??

well it's been 10 years since I last went to the Dordogne, we used to camp outside Sarlat at this site mainly because you can walk into Sarlat from there. But if we headed to the river then Vitrac was where we went - the river is stunning there, deep enough to swim properly but not too wide and fast flowing.

As for stopping off, which Channel port are you going to use? We would go into Cherbourg or Caen and then aim to do the drive in one day or stop just north of the Loire and book into a Logis then meander down to the Dordogne the next day.

DH and I drove down before DTs, takes ages, you definitely need an overnight - in the Loire somewhere perhaps? Tours?

We went to the Dordogne with Eurocamp last year and in fact we're going to the same place this year. Not that site though, so can't tell you about that. But it was lovely - weather was decent but not too hot for our red-haired children, lots to do and see and actually, not half as busy as I feared (although we singularly failed to park in Sarlat on 3 separate occasions - poss more to do with our tendency not to get up and go early enough).

We did the trip in a day to and from Cherbourg last year and it wasn't fun - we were lulled into a false sense of security because it's not as far as the Med - and this year we're overnighting there and back in the Loire - should mean about 4 hours driving each day max.

We used to go to this site when I was little - that was many years ago obviously... but my parents have been back a few times and say it's still really lovely. The facilities for kids are very good.

I love the Dordogne area. It's beautiful with lots to see and do. You'll have a great time.

We went there years ago as a child. I still have lovely memories of it now.

Are you going by Eurocamp? Or go it alone with your own tent? When are you going?? Where are you staying on the way down??

We are looking at here Just past Orleans but we stayed in Bourges last year and this is 1/2 hour less drive. Close to the autoroute and just 64E for a quad room. The little pool makes it great after a long drive down, makes the journey part of teh holiday IYKWIM

we are eurocamping (well, euro-mobile-home-with-its-own-loo-ing ). There was lots of space for direct bookings though - Eurocamp were the only big company on site. We were there in August and it wasn't full - not far off, but not full.

We're stopping off at one of the campsites in the Loire - near Tours (can't remember which - Onzain maybe?). We will go into Cherbourg though so you actually drive through Tours.

If you're coming through Calais, Vierzon would be a good stopover I think - it's right on the autoroute. (I used to live in Bourges btw )

we stayed in Bourges last time at Les Tilleuls (a really nice little Logis with it's own pool) hence I wanted another one this time.

We'll be doing Dover Calais as we live nearer dover and I get free crossings with tessco vouchers!!
