Eurocamp wobble - talk me down!

MarzipanDildo · 12/07/2017 07:13

Back in a wet and gloomy February I rather spontaneously booked a week at Domaine Des Ormes with Eurocamp. I got a bit excited with the novelty of a safari tent, so booked that. We are off next week (flying to Dinard).

There are 3 of us - me, DH and DD (5). We haven't ever been camping as a family yet, this is our first time. I spent many a happy holiday on French Eurocamp sites as a child, so thought "yeah, this will be brilliant!"

I'm having a few doubts now - the size and noise of the site (we live in a small, peaceful village), the weather, the lack of toilet facilities in the safari tent Grin

Somebody tell me everything's going to be ok??

You will have a fabulous holiday. All our dcs best memories of holidays are of campsites in France. Remember you wont be in the tent much..only to sleep as the weather will be fab and ye will sit outside to eat . When your little guy goes asleep ye will linger outside the tent sipping wine and enjoying the balmy evenings. He will sleep well due to busy active outdoor day.
Your little one will make friends with a little french guy next door and be so excited.
I am jealous that our days of Camping with our now grown children are over. Have a great holiday.

Totally agree with june - we had some wonderful Eurocamp holidays when our DS was younger - have many fond memories, am sure you will have a fantasticl time.

june's description makes me want to go Eurocamping right now. 😄

We are there right now op and the DC are having a blast, age 5 and 2, the site isn't too busy and they are quite strict about noise after 11pm, I was reminded it was nearly midnight when sitting out with a glass of wine and my book the other night!

Weather has been brilliant so far and the DC haven't woken up before 9am each day, they've been so wrecked from running about.

You will have a great time!!

NemosKnickers · 12/07/2017 08:48

Marzipan, that sounds brilliant! You've inspired me this morning Smile I'm off to look at this place.

Domaine des Ormes is brilliant - although it's huge, it's very spread out, so you don't feel like you're on top of each other. The facilities are spotless and really well maintained. There is so much to do on the campsite - horse riding, high ropes (including a little one for DC), great pool complex, crazy golf, lots of walks, etc. There are superb beaches nearby - St Malo, Dinan, Dinard and some beautiful medieval old towns .

Have a great holiday!

We're staying near there at the mo and the weather head been fab and forecast great for next week. You'll have a lovely time.

mopsytop · 12/07/2017 10:27

We stayed in one of the safari tents (different site but tents the same I presume) when my daughter was 2 and LOVED it! In spite of being pretty dubious beforehand (husband really wanted to go as he'd been as a child and loved it). Comfy bed (with mozzie net - much needed, alas), plenty space to put clothes away, fridge/freezer, big table. Was fab! Communal showers were clean and there were plenty. I think you'll have a fab time!

froomeonthebroom · 12/07/2017 10:48

The safari tents are ace! We stayed in one the first year they were available; everyone was very jealous! I didn't mind the lack of toilet facilities - it made the whole holiday even more of an adventure and the shower blocks on French campsites are always (in my experience) excellent and very clean.

Also to those of you thinking of booking I can highly recommend La Garangeoire in the vendee.

We're doing eurocamp for the 3rd time this year. I've been to domaine des ormes and it's a fab site. Until the kids are older, they make very good holidays.

MarzipanDildo · 12/07/2017 11:50

Oh you lovely lot, thank you! Am now wishing I was there right now instead of in a stuffy office. Bring on next week Wine

samlovesdilys · 13/07/2017 21:13

It was St Avits Loisirs in the dordogne during May 1/2 term...was totally lush!!

Sickofthinkingofnewnames · 15/07/2017 16:45

Safari tents are very much glamping rather than camping. We've always gone in the standard eurocamp tent but I had a good nose round an empty one last year andI was impressed.thing is the safari tents are almost the same price on the sites we like as the basic mobile home and they have a toilet :)

We "tried" eurocamp six years ago and have been back every year since it's amazing for children and if they are Happy i get to read my book so I'm happy

MarzipanDildo · 16/07/2017 13:35

Thanks again all, this is reassuring stuff! Also the photos look idyllic. Now I just need the weather to play ball Smile

We stayed at domaines des ormes a few years ago, it's a great site. We stayed in a mobile home but the euro camp tents looked nice too and had all the facilities. It was very spread out and set in lovely surroundings. The fact that it was spread out made it not seem as busy. They have a fab indoor pool which my kids loved and outdoor pools too. Lots of places to eat and a well stocked shop. Have a great time
