Advice for camping in Brittany!

Hi all!
We are in the process of buying our first motor home and are planning on taking it to France in July. We have 2 little girls aged 2 and 4. We are planning on getting the ferry to Cherbourg and going down to Brittany. We don't really want to travel much further than 5 hours from Cherbourg. We want to stay on a site which has a nice pool and a few things for the children but not a massive Euro camp type place. We would like to be close to the beach as my husband wants to do some surfing. We also want to be walking distance to a nice village or town with places to eat and have a few drinks - this is pretty essential!
We don't have to get the ferry to Cherbourg if there are any better places we can get to from Calais. Cherbourg was the most we could stretch to financially as any further south was mega expensive on the ferry!
Any suggestions at all will be much appreciated!

Do you have any plans to join the caravan club or caravan and camping they usually send out a camping/caravaning europe brochure with many sites in, there are a mix of sizes but i am sure you would find one suitable for your needs, you should be able to find the sites online though without the need to become a member unless you were otherwise planning to.

I would recommend Camping Du Poulquer which is in Benodet, a beautiful site, quite small with pool, the owners are very nice and we went a lot when the dc were younger, it is a short walk into the town Benodet where there is a number of restaurants and shops.

Can't recommend a campsite (as I live here so have never needed to come camping!) but I do have a discount code for the ferry and can tell you about areas if you narrow it down to a choice of sites

Ohhh ferry discounts would be lovely! We are still really struggling to find somewhere with a nice pretty town walking distance to a campsite with places to eat and have a drink! Can you advise on any towns in the area? We really have no idea! Thanks so much all for the advice

Are you thinking of the north or south coast? Both are pretty, I prefer the north and am obviously totally biased

Argh! no I don't prefer the north at all! I live on the South coast, near Vannes and prefer it to what I have seen of the north - though it's still very pretty - my fingers are moving faster than my brain!!

We have just come back from a fortnight at Camping les Embruns in Le Pouldu which is on the southern coast - it was wonderful. Our 3 year old loved it. Walking distance to the beach, pool with a couple of slides (but not a big water park type thing). Also a little farm on the site with donkeys, horses and goats. Some good surfing nearby too.

Generally the bigger the site the more facilities it's likely to have (pools, playgrounds, etc).
