What bedding to take for camping in Europe?

I'm fairly sure we won't need our 3 season sleeping bags but there again we will be travelling through Belgium and the Alps so a bit risky to just turn up with blankets! Summer duvets maybe? For most of the holiday we will be in Croatia but it's the getting there and back that I'm not sure about. Space is a bit of an issue, mainly because I keep buying things...

We once camped in UK and Dordogne on 1 trip. I'm pretty sure we took our double sleeping bag and a summer duvet so we had the choice!

Do your sleeping bags open up? You could take just a cotton duvet cover and place the bags in there? Cotton would feel a lot cooler and you'd have more option to stick arms/legs out if hot than a sleeping bag.

Or take the duvet and extra blankets? I find the warmest way is to wrap a fleece blanket around me then get in a sleeping bag/under a duvet.

We take our down sleeping bags and a single cotton sheet each for summer in the alps. Most of the time we open the sleeping bag up and use it like a blanket but have also got the sheet option if we are too hot.
