I'm hoping that some of you seasoned campers out there can recommend somewhere.

We need some where to go for the first 2 weeks of the summer hols with my parents in their caravan, us in the tent we have just been given, that has a swing park in it, nice showers and loos (pref with a baby changing bit). Not too worried about it having entertainment (like a club)for the kids, but a swing park and/or a pool would be great.

We are looking at the south half of England but not too long a drive from us (we are in Kent) as we have a small baby (so probably not the West country but if the site was lovely, we might consider it).

I guess from the price side of things, it needs to be fairly basic for us to be able to afford to stay there for 10 days to 2 weeks in August, but although my parents caravan is all mod cons, we only have a tent at the moment and nothing else so we'll need to get things to survive in it.

Basically, I needed your experience and recommendations as we are pretty new to this.

Can anyone help?

we'll be there 2-14 August Cadbury, how about you? the reviews are here peachy in the reviews and on the site there are 3 fields mentioned - I originally thought lower looked best but then read about smelly lagoon so changed my mind, swayed by the new toilet block I'm afraid (these things matter)

Cadbury · 21/03/2007 18:50

we'll be there at the same time as you dingdong! Yay!
Are you in a tent or caravan? maybe we coiuld fly a mumsnet teeshirt from the guy ropes or something to show who we are!

Abbotsbury sub tropical gardens and the swannery is just up the road from fleet too.
And you can all wave at the wurzel house if you pass Dorchester.
We prob going to cornwall for our hol's. no LO's yet to really think what's needed in a holiday. TTC though.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 21/03/2007 21:12

we'll be in this tent with our twin girls who'll be 3.8 by then, I'm sure you'll hear them

Cadbury · 24/03/2007 19:28

you'll hear us first - we'll have a six year old girl, a 4 year old boy and a 6 month old baby girl. We'll be the ones everyone is queueing up to complain about I dare say!

Are you seasoned tent campers? I might need to pick your brains about what else we need to get hold of - we only have a tent, blow up matresses and sleeping bags for the kids at the moment. I seem to be compiling a never ending list of things to buy but I'm not sure what we will defo need and what I'm missing.

There is a list here on uk campsite which is good for starters!!

or I might just give you a panic fit and post my camping packing list one day!

it's quite formidable

Do you have a roofbox?

Cadbury · 24/03/2007 19:34

no roofbox and no money to get one either. My parents will transport the tent in their caravan and we'll have to take everything else. No idea how we'll do it.

Can you get them to take all your sleeping stuff too?

and chairs?
and children?

then you bugger off to the pub!!

Cadbury · 24/03/2007 19:36

shit! who has room for all of that? Especially the guitar!!!

Cadbury · 24/03/2007 19:38

lol Lucycat - I like your style!

will get them to take as much as they can but they may draw the line at the kids!

I don't know how' we'd ever manage if we tried going camping without my folks to take everytrhing for us! We'll never be able to go alone!

just reviving this thread as we are actually off to east fleet on monday. think we have everything we need - am probably packing all the wrong stuff (i always over pack) but we have the main things and managed to waterproof the tent in the one dry day we've had this last few months.

so, what is dingdongjustforyoufg now called and do you fancy meeting up? We will be there from the 30th for 12 days.
