Best campsite in Cumbria/Lake district

Please could you let me have any recommendations for a first time reluctant camper in the Lake District? DH & kids have been before and LOVE it and now they want mummy to come to 🙄

I'm looking for somewhere very nice but it will definitely be proper camping rather than glamping unfortunately!

Following, we are having a week in Eurocamp in June but fancy a weekend at the lakes before Scottish schools start in August. We have a tent but haven't actually used it yet.

We usually go to Low Wray. Last week we stayed at Side Farm at Patterdale. Ok, we have stayed there before, the toilet block is a bit unloved and they seem to struggle to collect the rubbish from the bins. Lovely location though.

Depends what you like. We like quiet and rustic.

Kestrel Lodge here is on our list to try but the route there had too many big hills for me cycling last week as I wasn't feeling chipper.

Our friends own a campsite in Anglesey and they've actually ended up being able to squeeze us in next weekend but these look great for the future!

Never mind camping - did you find the dress .

I was slightly disappointed with Side Farm last week. Only about four tents there and one of them were a walking couple from the Netherlands.

I just thought it was such a shame that the bins hadn't been emptied (in the loos as well as outside) and thought about the lovely sites in this couple's own country and the impression they were going home with.

Whether it is out of season over relaxation or not I don't know but I don't remember it ever being that bad.

The National Trust sites at Low Wray or Great Langdale. Low them both equally, but differently, like my children.

I see that you've booked somewhere now but I really liked Parkfoot in Pooley Bridge. It's a pretty big site with good facilities but there's also a quiet field on the edge of Ullswater if you want to stay away from the masses (which I did). Have a lovely trip.

BarchesterFlowers I got the dress and it was fabulous, I loved it so much, well worth the faff!!

If you're looking again in the future I can definitely recommend Hollow's Farm, possibly a little rustic but such a beautiful spot, wild swimming nearby and gorgeous accessible walks
