Camping at 7 months pregnant. Madness?

I am expecting a baby at the end of August. We bought a whole lot of camping gear last summer but only managed an overnight trip.

I'd like to give the children a week at the beginning of the summer holiday (Scotland - beginning of July) but think I might be crazy contemplating it.

What do you think?

[snort]
we considered this
going to CenterParcs instead
at least they have proper beds

Ceolas · 11/03/2007 21:02

But CP is so expensive in the Summer!

Madness then?

I would have done it.
Just make sure you don't have to do any of the lugging - and remember to have a lidded bucket to wee in!
Maybe a proper camp bed rather than an air bed?

MrsBadger · 11/03/2007 21:04

well, if you're going to be uncomfortable, why not be uncomfortable in the great outdoors?
How often do you get up to wee in the night at 8 months gone? Got a torch? Got some wellies?

I'd send DH with the children and stay at home and sleep for a week

lovely

Ceolas · 11/03/2007 21:06

Exactly!

I only ever pee once a night. Have started already.

I did one night, and was very sore the next day, but think I didn't have a blow up bed, that was in may and my dd was born at the end of july, but it was pre-children.

I think if you are prepared then it should be fine, really

you have proper blow-up bed or whatever and are happy to give it a go, where are you thinking of going Ceolas?

Ceolas · 11/03/2007 21:11

East coast somewhere. To avoid the midges.

We have a Coleman double airbed. Don't know what DH will be sleeping on

I will probably chicken out mid-June!

get dh a £5 blow up one from Tesco or some such place, your need is greater!

Aefondkiss · 11/03/2007 21:17

oh I am very excited about going camping, tho' dh only wishes to camp in the wilds, where he can build camp fires etc, whereas I am a lily livered like my comfort, a real shower, kind of person, with play area for my dc, still not really been to many camp sites

brighouse bay in the sw
plus a couple near Aviemore, which are nearer us.

Ceolas · 12/03/2007 09:01

Mentioned this to my mum on the phone last night. She just laughed!

Went camping with friends last summer. Friend was 37/38 wks pg with no3. Her reasoning was she was going to be uncomfortable anyway, so she may as well be uncomfy on holiday, where there were several other adults around to help look after her DC, than doing all the childcare at home with her husband at work. We all had a great time!

bumbleweed · 12/03/2007 19:46

I camped when 7 months pg. It was a nightmare even with an airbed - bloody back pain and rib pain all night - getting up from the floor difficult.

Couldnt get drunk.

Peeing 8 times a night into a bucket in the tent.

Never again.

Cloudhopper · 16/03/2007 19:48

I did it at 6 months pregnant, and everyone really laughed at me. We did Eurocamp, which made it a bit easier as there were more home comforts. Also they were camp beds rather than airbeds.

I did enjoy it, but I absolutely love camping and I have to say that not being able to drink made it much worse. I would make sure you are near the toilet block, not just for the middle of the night, but all day too.

Having said that, it was still a lovely holiday. In retrospect I would have preferred at least a mobile home.

purpleflower · 16/03/2007 19:54

I went last summer at 34weeks. Had a brilliant time and found the air bed more comfortable than my own!!

Enjoy yourself
