Not me as I have got pneumonia but DH&DD have been twice this year. We are camping at Easter 🐣, if my chest isn't up to it they will be going without me.

Beautiful morning here in N Yorks, where are you camping?

ImperfectTents · 26/03/2017 08:38

We are in braemar. Confession time, we have succumbed and bought a caravan. Though I did forget to pack our duvet and we have frozen at night. We have those nice outwell square sleeping bags with cotton linings. Perfect for summer but not early spring in the highlands. We have had tents for years but wanted a longer camping season.

Jealous! Will soon be picking up our new campervan and can't wait to set off on our first trip!

BarchesterFlowers · 26/03/2017 09:54

Thanks tents, Grin, I bet it is glorious.

My lot haven't exactly been roughing it, we bought a tent with a wood burner to extend our season.

Out of season camping is my favourite thing (hermit like tendencies). I like the peace, being active in the cooler temps and early nights that being knackered from a day outside/the dark nights bring.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/03/2017 19:05

Not yet, we should be off next weekend in a tent without the very posh sounding log burner! Wish me luck! Smile

AlwaysaNortherner · 26/03/2017 19:07

Very jealous :) I'm working weekends this year and my OH works Mon-Fri, so just realised today that camping isn't going to happen much this year. Definitely the place to be this weekend!

katymac · 26/03/2017 19:08

we are sleeping in our motorhome on the way home from buying it tomorrow.....we only have sleeping bags too will we be cold?

What else should I take?

BarchesterFlowers · 26/03/2017 19:12

Depends on your sleeping bags Katy. We use four season bags with a liner from October til April generally, and wear thermals and a hat.

I hope they are collecting you from the station? Very exciting.

katymac · 26/03/2017 19:20

They are; I know the van has heating but I don't know how effective it is - I'll throws another couple of blankets in

More worried that the water & loo won't be set up tbh

Milliways · 26/03/2017 19:50

We also have a "tin tent" and have already used it this year, but not as much as we would like due to various issues. We saw the weather this morning and wished we were camping.
Katie, Gas heating in a van is usually very effective, and if just relying on EHU heating it takes longer to warm up but again is ok.
Any dealer should fill the tank and prep the loo for you if you ask. They should also through in some starter loo chemicals.
Don't forget to pack your kettle and bottle opener.
We also video'd the entire handover talk, how all the controls worked etc, so could refer to that when we got confused. (We did check they were happy with that).

BarchesterFlowers · 26/03/2017 20:03

I just saw that 20 degrees c was recorded in the Highlands today on Countryfile Shock. I think tents needs to tell us all when she is going away next so that we can do the same.

katymac · 26/03/2017 20:10

Ok so heating & loo might work

We can't pack kettle & mugs so we will have dinner & breakfast out

I don't know what powers the heating yet...umm alde central heating?

ImperfectTents · 26/03/2017 20:22

Heading off again 7th of April pack your sun Cream!

BarchesterFlowers · 26/03/2017 20:25

Thank you! We have got a site booked for Easter weekend too, Northern England - no rain allowed.

Dh asked where the sun cream was earlier when he went out for a ride. Spring has sprung.

RumAppleGinger · 26/03/2017 20:31

Hoping to go week after next during the easter holidays with DS's (6 &2). Will more than likelt play it safe with one of our favourite site at Comrie to ease us in.

katymac · 26/03/2017 21:31

still a bit stressy about this (added loo roll)

BarchesterFlowers · 26/03/2017 22:00

Where are you going on your next trip tents. seems more polite to call you tents rather than Imperfect?

SaucyJack · 27/03/2017 14:32

We camped in the PILs back garden Sat night as a trial run for the Easter holidays.

Our new tent held up splendidly in the wind, but it was fecking freezing at night. We're panic buying new sleeping bags this week as our summer season stuff just doesn't cut it this early in the year.

DressMeUpInStitches · 12/04/2017 17:09

Our 1st camp was last weekend. I have a rab sleeping bag which goes down to -50 so was nice & cosy!

prettywhiteguitar · 12/04/2017 19:48

We went out to near Filey which is North Yorkshire, last weekend. It was beautiful and the weather really made it special, bright sunshine, clear skies. Our sleeping bag was lovely but our poor 5year old dd had to come in with us as hers was not up to the cold nights.

I'm desperate to go away again next week but the weather looks miserable!
