I hope she's got one of those all seasons sleeping bags!

I lurrve camping but wouldn't fancy it tonight, even down here in balmy Dorset.

Milliways · 02/03/2007 21:06

She has the tiniest sleping bag I've ever seen, but it is a 3 season one & vry warm. She is also wearing lots of clothes!

milliways,dd is doing bronze ,how is your dd finding silver ,what is she doing for her service?

Milliways · 02/03/2007 21:29

She is helping with the Junior Church this year (worked in a nursery last year).

Lots of route planning etc, and she has her GCSE's this year, but should give welcome breaks from the books!

dd is doing babysitting this year.
Hope your dd has a great weekend.

Mercy · 02/03/2007 21:35

Blimey, she's brave!

Milliways · 02/03/2007 21:36

Thanks - hope yours enjoys the whole thing.

It's great that DD, who LOVES make-up, dressing up, being a girlie etc, also loves getting wet & muddy, surviving with no hair straighteners etc & sleeping in the smallst tent imaginable.

She got gaitors & walking trousers for her birthday by request!

I bought walking trousers for dd today, she was howling at the really high waist.Need to get gators and waterproof trousers yet.Did you get expensive waterproofs?

Milliways · 02/03/2007 21:42

Nope. A great jacket from Aldi, the trousers were in the Millets Sale (not totally waterproof but comfy to wear on their own (not over trousers). She has decent boots though. Use your DofE card for discounts. We also got a really good backpack which was great. Gators also in Millets online sale.

Gotta go now, night!

You're gonna have a soggy kit bag to sort out tonight if it's raining there like it is here.

PeachesMcLean · 04/03/2007 12:48

Yup, she's gonna be wet. Though sounds like she's well equipped so should be fine. We stayed the night last night with friends on the edge of the Beacons and it's rained solid all morning.

PeachyClair · 04/03/2007 13:10

Well, the Brecons are but a few miles away from me (and Peaches McLean), its stopped raining but boy is it cold. And when it was rainingeven virtually non-verbal DS3 managed to comment on it, it was that abd!!!!! Poor lass- soup in order!

Last time I was in her position we abandoned the expedition- DofE so many years ago LOL! The first night was such bad winds, and it was pre-mobile phones. Our leader had all our details and a radio etc- but had buggered off to dartmoor (we were on the Mendips) where ther was no reception so the Wardens, knowing we were somewhere, had to come find us, only we'd got ost 9we later found the route we used was classified as unpassable LOL and we didnt notice)

Fortunately we had the sense to notice the weather and headed to the wardens post instead- where we were put up for the night as it was so bad. The next day we kept on, but were so wet we went in for a pub meal, whioch was the bit that got the expedition disocunted. Coz like, hypothermia and a missing leader would have been so much better

DS2 is doing DofE next month (giving us a chance for a nice weekend away w/o children).I think that will be cold enough then - even if it is nice during the day, it is freezing at night. DS1 did an overnight bivouac with CCF in March and has never been so cold in all his life. It wasn't helped by the food doled out - out of date army rations!
