Campsites near surf beach in vendee

Can anyone recommend a campsite which is walking distance to a surfing beach? We have 2 boys of 5 and 2 - husband is a surfer. Preferably Vendee region - to avoid travelling too far down south.

Been to the vendee many times, but never came across any surf beaches. However, we stayed near Messanges and the surf was very strong there. On fact, the beach would be dangerous for your young children.

Thank you - I know what you mean . I'm starting to think that surfing beach with toddlers isn't going to be that relaxing or safe. Thanks for posting a response.

Look at the beach Dunes 2 at Brem Sur Mer near Bretignoles. There is a section for surfing there and a surf school Atlantique Lizard.

St Gilles Croix-De-Vie gets surf.

Check out Magic Seaweed and it'll give a surf report for all the beaches in the area.

Make sure you read the reviews of whichever campsite you choose. We've stayed in 2 on the Vendee and one was great and the other awful. Filled with gangs of loud teenagers at night pratting around. Unfortunately, it was a while ago and I can't remember which was which!

St Giles also has the best pattiserie in the universe - it's called Fred's and you can go for morning coffee and cake or afternoon cake (opens at 2 of course we weren't the people who hung around waiting for it to open...)

We started camping in France when our youngest was 2 years old (8 years ago) we went to Bordeaux and the Vendée but found the sea too rough for little ones. So we have been camping inland in lots of lovely locations near rivers and lakes and it has worked very well. With our eldest turning 13 later this year, we are considering returning to the west coast of France as both boys are keen to learn to surf and are strong swimmers.

Try La Tranche as that's where they hold surf championships. There's a couple of sites there including Bel which is quite small but walking distance to the town and next to Super U. It has a cracking market too.
St Gilles is lovely too as is Les Sables d'Olonne. You can surf at Les Sables. Further down the coast are Hourtin, Biscarosse and Lacanau. They all have good surf and plenty of campsites.
