ruda has a good indoor pool and there is also an outdoor one. It's also on the beach and there are some good walks as well. It doesn't say online but ring them to ask about camping.

aDad · 21/01/2007 08:10

i camped at ruda.

You are in a minority as it's mainly static caravans and chalets but you are nearer the sea than everyone else.

It's a good choice!

is ti agood
i fancy that fo half term

aDad · 21/01/2007 08:52

well the area is fab - huge beaches in all directions. Get the kids surfing. Plenty to do within a short drive.

Campsite - I only went pre-kids so didn't check out any of the kid stuff, but the pools looked great. I guess it's a traditional stylee campsite with bar/club with 'entertainment' in the evening.

You are in croyde village which is really nice, a handful of places to eat, good pubs, very pretty.

aDad · 21/01/2007 08:54

also - and for me this is important, it's a good couple of hours less drive than most of cornwall.

Sparkler1 · 21/01/2007 09:00

That place looks wonderful - just looked into it myself. Just be warned the kids entertainment doesn't start until March so if you are thinking of going in half term there won't be anything going on.

Kbear · 21/01/2007 13:27

Thanks - looks good.

here is the website

aDad · 21/01/2007 13:34

well when i've been round there it's never seemed like that at all. More of an outdoorsy surfy crowd generally in the area.

But y'know dont blame me and all that.

Lucycat · 21/01/2007 15:25

How about Holywell Bay near Newquay

We thought about this one but opted for Trevornick just up the road - literally.

When are you thinking of going KBear?

This is an aerial photo of Trevornick (with the fun park place too) the other site is off to the left of the photo slightly.

Surfermum · 21/01/2007 15:48

Hendra near Newquay has a good pool complex, indoor and out. I got stuck on one of the flumes in a donut ring. V embarrassing. There were kids pointing at me and laughing "look, she's stuck". Dsd thought it was hilarious and just whooshed past me on hers, leaving me stranded.

We've only been there for the pool though and not stayed on site.

Lucycat - not sure when we're going. This year's holiday planning is hard work. DH's job makes it complicated, as well as school holidays and my mum going away in Sept (my childcare!) and finances (that old chestnut!)so I am giving up on Keycamp camping in France as originally planned and going camping with our own stuff here. But I promised the kids exciting swimming pools like the one at the French campsite we looked at.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Any more?

I know its not very MN but I assume everyone realises that Minehead Butlins now does camping, yes? Tents are fine (you have to telephone and ask for the camping section), so if anyone is into the pool factor (as opposed to the rural factor- although Exmoor is OK)
