help - tell me what tent you have

First time going camping - family of four - two kids - 6 and 3 - what tent would you buy or have bought? Would really appreciate your advice.

What factors are important to you?

Cost / budget - as economical as poss or an investment?
Will you be doing weekends or whole weeks / fortnights?
This country or hot?
vibe - do you want a canvas bell tent (but you need space at home to be able to dry it if you bring it home wet)
Does it need to pack small to go in a car, or have you got lo0ads of packing space?

For simple erection (ooh er missus) a good quality and thoroughly waterproof tent, with sewn in groundsheet and plenty of space, with a reasonable price tag, I would say Vango Icarus.

Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 pop up for weekends.
Outwell Hartford L for weeks. We don't usually go for whole weeks any more as we go to France and have a ready made one (Eurocamp style).

I love my Quechua but I don't think they make them any more.
