We're heading to The Forest of Dean.

Looks like it could be a chilly one!

We were meant too but it's 99% rain for the next few days and i don't fancy putting the tent up in gail force winds. So we have wimped out. DT2 also has a cold which means she can't breathe through her nose which means it's THE END OF THE WORLD!! so not sure i want her screaming all over the campsite at 4am like she did last night. Hopefully the weather will be better for our week over the next half term school hols.
Good luck to everyone that's braving it.

I bailed too. Our campsite was under snow yesterday, heavy rain forecast and 45mph winds on Monday. Kids are devastated, me and DH less so!

AnnPerkins · 29/04/2016 13:44

Yup, we've cancelled. DH would have been too miserable. He's a definite fairweather camper.

It's very disappointing. I haven't been away in our van for over a year Sad

Well, we're all packed! Think we've got a bit more than usual so I'm optimistic we'll be OK!

Just stocked up on hand warmers and thermals for ds as they are going ahead. Brave souls.

Thanks for the tips.

We were meant to be going for our first ever camping trip but have bailed aswell. Dd burst into tears when I told her but she's over it now, think I'm more gutted than she was! Glad we're not the only ones

Well it was cold, but much drier than the forecast had indicated. There were some incredible starry skies.

Until this morning. Then it was much milder and much wetter.

Now we're home it's sunny and breezy - perfect drying weather!

We have had a fabulous sunny 3 days in Bruges, and are now in Amsterdam whee it looks like rain tonight but ok for next few days.
Highly recommend camping in Bruges, the site is walkable to the city where there is so much to see (and eat and drink!) so the sun was an utter bonus.

I have just been camping. It was below zero on Saturday night and really quite miserable despite my multiple layers. The days were lovely and sunny, though. I have just enjoyed a blissful reunion with my hot shower Grin

We were in the middle of the Wicklow Mountains with Cubs and Scouts. Lots and LOTS of rain and mud. 1 Cub nearly went home due to cold (but we layered her up, and Mum brought extra supplies for night 2 so she stayed). 1 Cub went home ill night 2, but came back the following morning for final activities. 15 loads of laundry when I got home (1 was DH having spent the weekend gardening at MILs, 3 were mine, the rest were DDs as she had got mud up to her eyeballs more than once!).

Not the absolute hardest camp the other leaders have done in the past decade, but a close second (the worst was actual gales at Jamboree). I am shattered after so little sleep (I had plenty of layers for heat, but lost my hot water bottle night 1 to cold Cub, night 2 to DD who was upset and slept in my tent, and was up being "Mammy" to the various Cubs needing minding in the middle of the night, meaning I was awake for 2 (very noisy!!) dawn choruses!).

I have a hen party this weekend for 2 nights so no sleep then, DH is away this week (so no extra sleep and keep the house standing), and a concert next week (which seemed like a good idea when tickets went on sale - rare treat).

We have one more weekend camp to do in Cubs, later in June, but there is at least a free weekend after it before our family holidays to recover!
