And it was refurbished in September, lots more pedestrianised bits (they closed the pizza restaurant the week we were there.)

There is a great campsite in the New Forest - it is full of flat forestry cycle tracks that loop round and round for easy routes back. Actually - any of the main New Forest ones are fab.

It depends whereabouts you want to go. dd1 learnt to ride at a farm in the Llyn peninsular and dd2 at a campsite at Llandudno. campsites are excellent for learning to ride

Just requested the Sandys Balls brochures - has anyone stayed in their ready tents - what are they like? Do they have club house/entertainment on site

Is Sandy Balls good for bike riding?

Agree New forest,forest holidays (forestry commission) we go there and they are perfect.

Broadway House campsite in cheddar is great for cyclists, they have barriers too so that cars cannot zoom around the site.

Is there much to do at night?

Cheddar has a small clubhouse (a friend runs the events- things like a disco, or erm, a mouse race - don't ask) and they ahve tables outside so you can have a drink and something to eat in the evening, its quite nice. They also ahve permanent barbecues built in an area near this most amazing playa rea (best i've seen), all frenced off of course, so as the kids play you can have a barbecue (there's even seating)

Forestry commission ones don't tend to ahve any tho

they have a website too, which is worth a good look.

Think about getting a bigger pitch- our only quibble was that some were a bit small for our unit. But there are lots of bigger ones, and also a more open style field available.

(its near us too- south wales, but we're from Somerset anyway)

TTT, Sandy Balls has takeaway cartons in the pub so you can take real ale back to your tent! The pub food is truly rubbish but the pizzas may be nicer.
Nice kids' activities in the summer season.
