So...I'm biting the bullet and buying a tent!
My kids will think I have lost my mind am wonderful!

So before I tell them, I need to budget and plan a little...

I've been to have a look at some tents - and haven't yet deceided on what to get...but I'm trying to work out how much I'll need to spend on other stuff to make it a pleasant way to travel and not just an endurance test!!

I don't need fairy lights and sheepskins, but neither do I want to slum it.
So...what are your must haves for comfort and practicalities when camping??

I am thinking I would really like airbeds (one for me and DH and one for kids to share)?

What about tables for eating, places to store stuff, cooking??

I'd really appreciate some tips from more experienced campers!

Sorry Disco... Hadn't checked back.

The Vango Keswick is a great tent. Just the right size without going too big. 2 bedrooms, nice big 'living room' and the front canopy/porch area is really handy. It curves around to make a nice kitchen area. Really easy to put up etc. If you sign up to Winfields newsletter they send a 5% off voucher. I think we paid £285 plus we bought the footprint which is a must as it stops bottom of tent getting wet and muddy making it less hassle to pack away. We camped last August in a thunder storm. It rained non stop for hours at night. The ground outside was like a swimming pool and a tent next to us flooded. The Keswick was fab and we stayed nice and dry! We were temped with the Vango Nadia but thought the steel poles would make it harder/heavier to pitch. Smile

Thanks Plaster! Good to hear. We've gone with the new Keswick DLX which is the same except with steel poles and a covering over the front porch. We live near a Winfields so went to look and then went home and ordered with the 5% off! Excited to use it now!

Blu

Pie iron???
Butchers hook???

Sounds like you might be re-enacting a scene from Sweeney Todd GrinGrinGrin

Blu · 11/04/2016 00:12

Hah!
Along with DS's selection of knives and the sharpener!

But I'll have you know I am very proud of my introduction of the butcher's hook as a camping essential.

Never again will you despair at the lack of hooks and dry surfaces to put things on in a communal campsite shower! Hook over the top of the door, towel, dry clothes etc in plastic carrier bags: sorted!

Brilliant but the pie iron? I'm almost too scared to ask.

Linus: Google - Be Not Afraid!

You will want one IMMEDIATELY !

ROUND PIE IRON for the perfect campfire toastie
