Anyone been camping here? Been to Brittany but weather was a mixed bag. Luckily we were in a static caravan, but we really want to camp with our own tent next year, so heading further south mid July time hoping for permanently nice weather. Any recommendations?

We camped here last year. www.campingloucomtadou.com/2015/index.php but not sure I'd really recommend it. The pitches were good and the site had a playground and free wifi, but it was let down by the swimming pool which was freezing and had nowhere to sit nearby.

The weather at the end of July was hot, but very windy! We tied the tent to a tree to be on the safe side!

Not a camper, but just wanted to say be careful what you wish for re weather. We stayed in Bandol near Marseille this year after years and years of DP moaning about unreliable weather in Brittany and the West (I much prefer those parts of France as Beaches are much bigger and it's less crowded generally). This year we sweltered in temperatures of 40 degrees - only place to get cool was in the air conditioning in the car. Couldn't go to the (extremely crowded) beach before 5pm and it was still boiling. Even strolling out to get a baguette at 8am was too much exertion in too great a heat. Give me the mixed bag of Brittany and the west any day - if it's a bit chilly you can always put a sweatshirt on, but when it's too hot there is nothing you can do!! I love Provence and the South, but I think May and June or September and October are much better times to visit both in terms of temperatures and crowds.

Really good advice thanks Lillian. Definitely something to bear in mind. We have a DD who will be 7 when we go so need to bear this in mind too. Lots to think about!

Having camped all over France my favourite place was the Ile re Re. Sunny, but breezy and huge empty sandy beaches even in August!
