we have recently got our first tent and I am loving it! have recently started to think that it might allow us to do some things that were previously unaffordable, eg lego land, eurodisney, Edinburgh festival etc. does anyone have any recommendations for sites they have used as a "base" for sightseeing or day tripping from?

Star farm at Alton is good for Alton towers and walking in the Peak District, trentham gardens, monkey forest, Emma bridgewater and Wedgwood.

Oh thank you, I hadn't thought of alton towers, and away to look up the others!

Don't know about the others but there is a campsite at Drayton Manor too.

We are staying at Hurley Riverside Park later next week so we can do legoland, Windsor castle and a trip into London on the train.
Can't wait! Camping is a great way to save on the usual accommodation prices.
