Getting the plastic taint out of a water carrier?

We set off for our first camping trip of the year this week, and I've got a new Outwell fold flat water carrier. It's perfect (space is a real challenge when packing the car) but it really smells plasticky. I'm filling it and rinsing it lots but the water that comes out is still tainted.

Any suggestions?

We found the same with our flat one, a hard one is more bulky but the water now stays fresh.

I had to bin ours it was so horrible. I buy a couple of big cheap bottles of water on arrival.

Good question! We had a really cheap clear plastic square one, but it sprang a leak recently and was pretty rubbish to begin with, and we've resorted to buying big 3l bottles then refilling them at the nearest tap. We really don't have space to pack anything else that doesn't foldaway, so I'd be interested in other recommendations.

I've so far filled it twice with warm water, then tried a solution of bicarb, lime juice (they needed used!), and warm water. It's better but not great :(

We get a 5l bottle of water delivered from a supermarket with our first load of shopping. No taint when refilled.
