How irritating would it be to play string instruments on a campsite?

Just thinking about weekends camping and the fact I'm learning to play the mandolin and dh has a ukelele. Wouldn't it be lovely to sit and doodle on them in the sun....

Would we really, really hack people off? Would we be pleasant background noise or annoying folksy hippies?

OP Watch Nuts in May this afternoon and report back on your decision.

Fine during the day and early evening, after 8 maybe not. These instruments are quiet ones, only a little bit of sound will carry on the wind.

millimat · 03/07/2015 22:31

No to the instrument, but you definitely have a great business plan there with the pop up tentsGrin

If you ended up on the same campsite as my PIL and the rest of their Morris side they would get you to join in. Find a folk festival you would be in good company.

Aw, it sounds like I'm in the minority but I love it if people are noodling away on instruments on a campsite. Stereo/speakers? Unacceptable. But instruments, especially stringed instruments, even if played badly I am totally fine with!

it wouldnt bother me, in fact id rather like it, as long as it was daytime and not all day long.

I have always been surrounded by people playing guitars etc though

GColdtimer · 12/07/2015 15:13

Last time we went camping DH and his friend took their guitars and played for half an hour in the afternoon, and by the evening loads of people in other tents were asking them to play again and were all joining in the singing. They put on an impromptu gig. But they play in a together band and are very good but even they wouldn't have played for long in the day or late in the evening if they hadn't been asked.

TBH i think you have to be good to inflict your playing on other people and even then proceed with caution.

I wouldn't mind during the day but I would fucking hate it at night

Actually, I don't like camping either so I'm not sure why I'm replying

kelda · 12/07/2015 15:23

I would love it. In fact I would ask you to let me have a go.

AlmaMartyr · 12/07/2015 15:45

Every time we've been camping lately there's been some person twat with a guitar. I guess during the day it's not unreasonable as such but it makes me so stabby.
