OH SH*****T! May lose tent in the wind!

The title says it all. Really windy. Wind blasting up the loch but I had to go for the good view this morning when I pitched. Too windy to move it now. Won't be able to hold on to the canvas if I take it down. Have parked in front of the tent, and rigged up a tarp to give a partial low level windbreak. I do have a proper windbreak but it would never hold. Tent beside me flat.

Any tips?

I can't complain about the wind after reading The Tent, The Bucket, And Me, by Emma Kennedy. To cut a long story short, First ever camping trip she went on, big storm, tent blew off, sheltered in caravan, caravan tipped onto side and slid down hill, family climbed out of window just before caravan fell off cliff. It's a great if sometimes painful read.

Hoping you survived your traumatic night

OMG!

Well done Tiggy - glad you survived.

A few days of rain and the wind is back. Up to 45 mph gusts tonight according to the BBC weather for Fort William. Currently got heavy rain and hail and a big clap of thunder.

Am moving inland tomorrow.

Inland ? Is that a typo? Not 'indoors'??

Respect Tiggy.

Is this a holiday ?

TiggyD · 06/06/2015 06:10

Bad night of no sleep. Gave up at 5. Got up and now I'm all packed up in the car. Soaking wet tent on the back seat. Booked myself into Glenmore near Aviemore later. In the woods away from the windy west coast.

Yes, it is a "holiday".

Away from windy west coast. Gust of wind when tent half up broke a pole. Luckily my poles break quite nicely and a bit of duct tape works wonders. Handy for when the second pole broke the next day.
Weather finally changing. Zero wind and sun with medium cloud.
Only issue is i'm out of phone reception most of the time.

Glenmore is indeed terrible for phone signal. If you walk on the path round the far side of Loch Morlich (not the road side) you can often get a signal not too far round there.

How are the midges now the wind is dropping??

I hope the sun continues to prevail - and that you are having a nice time, Tiggy!
