torn between two dordogne campsites can anyone help???

Hi there,
Looking at le port de limeuil and also camping maisonnneuve.
Has anyone been to either of these? We have 2 dc (8 and 5) so the pool and play park look good. No too bothered about having evening entertainment, like the idea of a river beach (or river swimming). For the adults a town/village wihtin walkingish distance is good.
Have also considered
soliel plage but wonder if it might be too big, more suitable for teenagers?

Don't know any of the campsite you mention, but limeuil is a very pretty town, at the confluence of 2 rivers. It's a popular place for river bathing.

Sounds lovely, suspect they are both nice and therefore it won't matter

I loved Port de Limeuil. We were there at the very end of August last year - had fab weather and the campsite was quiet. The river beach is great and it's lovely to be a short walk from a very picturesque village with a couple of very nice restaurants.

I have booked maison neuve because of this thread!

Argh! Due to job/work buggering about wasn't able to book and now (when we can book) it's hard to find a place that's free. All the above appear to be booked out..
Any recomendations? Idealy would like access to river (or lake with beach) pool and walk to village/town (although the last request could be ditched)..... would look at Lot and further away too

Hi hettie would you consider Biscarosse, near Bordeaux? I ask because we are going to a new Yelloh site there this summer - Au Lac du Biscarosse, and it is on the lake (as the name suggests and has a pool etc. If a Yelloh site isn't for you (I know they can be a bit big and commercial for what many people want), I know there are plenty of other sites dotted round the lake and right on it.

I think we have the same camp site criteria . We've stayed at Capeyrou and would happile go back (they are booked ). Will check out the other two thanks

I think we do, hettie. As I looked at those websites, I wondered why we hadn't booked one of them rather than the new and untested one we have gone for. They all look lovely.

I do hope you find somewhere. Have you looked on www.UKcampsite.co.uk? They cover France to some extent too.

Phew... found somewhere www.moulin-de-paulhiac.com/campsite-france-dordogne.html. It's not walking distance to a village, but at this stage wwe just had to suk it up!

Oh bloody HELL! They can't rent us a fridge (they are all rented out) which would make the holiday really quite expensive/painful. Am very bored of looking at sites now... wish there was some way of checking real time availability across load of sites...Bloody work dicking around until the last minute.

Try camping des iles near Beaulieu, a new Indigo site, 5 min walk to a town and they do fridge hire

I know it is an expensive initial outlay, but would you consider buying a 3-way fridge hettie? Go Outdoors have one for £170 at the moment.

Last year, we ended up buying one because the site we were going to didn't hire them out. We got a Waeco one for just over £200/£225 I think (DH bought it). We really haven't looked back since and, because they run on gas, we can have properly cold food everywhere we camp, even at festivals and sites with EHU.

It also means we don't have to worry about whether the site we are going to in France this year hires fridges or not.

Have contemplated the fridge option... But are golf sized car is full to the brim as it is. Am awaiting an email response for two more sites. Wish me luck

We stayed www.yellohvillage.co.uk/camping/lascaux_vacances last year, could walk to small but beautiful village, pools good and not a walk to river but couple nearby plus lovely lake with bathing, sandy beach , bar/cafe and play bits and bobs. Highly recommend. Failing that Google camping at St cirq lapopie, our river bathing of choice in the Lot and just stunning

Thanks to this thread we are currently roasting at Limeuil- it is 34 degrees in the shade! At least the pitches are shady. Fab site though, thoroughly recommended.

Also thanks to this thread we had a glorious week at maisonneuve complete with frigo! I didn't even know you could hire white goods so thanks for the tip.
