So, who else is camping over the BHW?

We have had some of the best April weather in years.

It is our first proper family camping trip (DCs 6 and 3) next weekend.

It is going to piss it down and be negative temperatures isn't it?

And now it's gone worse again: showers on Sunday...

Yep we're going to Stamford hall near rugby. I'll be kitted out like a polar explorer and will refuse to get out of my sleeping bag if it's too cold. This is dh's idea of a romantic anniversary getaway - I was hoping for Amsterdam boutique city break!

I have stopped looking at forecasts - they all say rain but vary as to whether there is a little or a lot. We are definitely going to go, but will come home after 1 night if we are very soggy. My main aim is to pitch in the dry otherwise I think it could be miserable. Actually quite looking forward to it though - think we will have fun, and the DCs are super excited. Wine packed Grin

Yes we are off in our campervan :) but we aren't going too far from home so if it's a total washout we can always toddle back.

I was a bit taken back though - initially I'd said go for the big name park as we know they have indoor stuff to do but the price was extortionate! 84 quid for two nights camping with ehu - I was Shock Course that would have guaranteed good weather ........

hillbilly · 02/05/2015 16:18

I'm absolutely gutted that we are not going Sad

lavendersun · 02/05/2015 16:42

DD & I are going now tomorrow for one night in our little ridge tent, only an hour from home and somewhere we haven't been. The weather forecast is grim for tomorrow but fine on Monday so hopefully not a complete washout.

MegBusset · 02/05/2015 17:17

We are definitely going tomorrow :) Weather looks alright, might rain a bit but that's why we bought a caravan Grin

Fish n chips at the world's best chippie tomorrow!!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 02/05/2015 20:25

Forest of Dean has been much better than the forecast.

It's not the warmest but that's what thermals, down jackets and gun are for!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 02/05/2015 20:51

So jealous of you all! We are not going after all Sad

lavendersun · 02/05/2015 21:16

I have just finished half packing the car - I think that cold weather camping is easier to pack for - thermals, walking trousers/boots and fleeces. None of this trying to cater for every eventuality business.

I made my dog a fleece/suede on one side "bed coat" for want of a better description a couple of years ago .. she greeted it like a long lost friend earlier when it emerged from the barn Smile.

Dear me, the weather is VVV grim here, just about to leave. We are planning on lunch out, a swim and dinner out, looks like it should improve late this evening - happy camping everyone!

RandomHouseRules · 03/05/2015 22:04

We are just bedding down for night two. It rained most of today and all of last night but we have managed to have dinner by the fire each night and everyone in surprisingly good mood given the weather (and given we are in a tent). I had forgotten quite how loudly DS can snore - much more disturbing than the rain. Kids have had a ball with new friends on site. Hoping it is dry for take-down in the morning or it could take the shine off.

It rained solidly yesterday morning but stopped just as we arrived at the 'van around midday :) was lovely all afternoon and evening, we had a good bit of beach time and the fish'n'chips were lush :) sat out til 11pm admiring the stars and drinking Wine of course!

Gloriously sunny today :)

Hope all you campers had some fine weather too!

Blu · 04/05/2015 20:34

We suck it out and survived - and had a good time.
Arrived late fri eve - oh that traffic! Got our new tent up (easy peasy) fire lit and dinner cooking gear set up in the nick of time before dark fell.

Had dinner, enjoyed our fire.

Fine day on Saturday, but it was getting a bit damp by evening, so off to the pub. But we still lit the fire when we got back and enjoyed it for a while until a quick scramble to get everything under cover.

Tipping it down on Sunday morning, off to the local seaside town, lots of interesting things to do and see and back to the campsite for beers in the sun, a great evening's BBQing and sitting round the fire. Well prepared this time for the sudden scramble when the rain started, but it was bed time by then anyway.

Gorgeous morning this morning, lazing in the sun with coffee and breakfast and fin on site before another beach outing and home.

We were v warm at night, with ordinary sleeping bags and an extra blanket.

MegBusset · 04/05/2015 20:50

Sounds lovely Blu, where did you go?

I got sunburnt Shock

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/05/2015 21:52

Most of our rain was overnight. Friday night was a bit chilly, but the other two were pretty mild.

We've brought a damp rather than wet tent home which shouldn't take too much drying plus the obligatory mountain of laundry!

Glad we went - we were saying how if we waited for a good forecast we'd never go to some of our favourite sites.
