Icey-tek! Are they worth it?

My finger is poised to purchase a 40 litre Icey-tek cool box. It's an expensive buy at £120.
Is it going to be worth it? Are they significantly better than other brands?
How long will it keep our stuff cool for? We go on extended camping trips up to two weeks at a time.
Is a 40 litre going to be big enough?

What's the verdict on these most trendy and popular of camping items?

Are you a member of Costco or know someone who is? They had loads of cool boxes in there today and some were Icey-Trek (don't ask me for more details than that!!)

Thanks - my friend has a Costco card so I'll take a look. As far as I was aware there's only one retailer that has the right to sell Icey-Tek but you never know!

Anyone else?

CostCo sell Icey Tek???

Icey Teks are a different construction to most high St coolboxes. Search Icey Tek on this board and you will find loads of threads about how they perform and how to get the best out of them.

They are better than any other Coolbox I have used.

I am starting to doubt myself now.
We were there this afternoon and I remember running my hand across the front of a beast of a box and the name of it I recognised because of you lot going on about how good they were.
I was in Cardiff. Perhaps a phone call maybe a good idea before you set off on some mission based on my ramblings...Grin

A little googling reveals that CostCo sell an American IceyTek lookalike called Igloo that get good write ups. Could it have been Igloo?

CrockedPot · 29/03/2015 07:15

Yes, so worth it! We camp for two weeks at a time and couldn't do without ours, well worth the money.

I have a 40l purple icey tek and love it! It did well last summer in the hot weather.

Best cool box we have had too. It is so good my brother went and got one on the back of my parents saying it was great for the one picnic they saw it in use!

We have a Waeco Cool ice which I would recommend, keeps things cool for 5 days easily which is when we would shop again. Similar prices to IT when I last looked but you do find them reduced occasionally.

Yep I have researched cool boxes until my eyes are spinning. I don't want an electric one because we don't always have EHU.
My car is due it's MOT tomorrow...depending on how that goes, I'll maybe buy an Icey-Tek on the back of it.

Will I buy their super special very expensive Aussie gel packs to go with? Bumps the price up somewhat.

How do you keep yours cool?

We were cheapskates thought we wouldn't need the Aussie gel packs and we'd be OK with these but they don't fit exactly so we ended up losing a lot of space and they were quite annoying in the end.

We caved last year and bought the Aussie ones and find they stay cool waaaaay longer.

Bumpinthenight · 30/03/2015 07:49

We had the Aussie gel packs (2 needed for the 40l) from the outset. Just topped up with a bag of ice from the supermarket towards the end of the trip.

pictish · 30/03/2015 10:53

That's going to bump it up to £146 - my car's in for it's MOT now, if all is well I'll order one. Pricey bugger.
