Places to eat out near Garangeoire?

We'll be staying here again during the summer and will have a special family birthday while out there. Can anyone recommend anywhere a bit more special to eat out nearby? We've stayed at the site before, but only found the pizzeria in St Julien which was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. We didn't seem to come across any other restaurants or even cafes really! Obviously there's the restaurant onsite, but it would be nice to go somewhere off site. Should add that it's for an adult birthday, but we'll be staying as a family, so it should be reasonably family friendly. Also doesn't need to be especially fancy! Thanks in advance!

Should add that we could certainly travel, up to an hour - and go for lunch rather than dinner. All the better if there's anything else of interest or sights to see nearby! Thank you Smile

Having a complete memory lapse from when we were there six years ago, but I remember we ate in a nice restaurant by a castle! And I'm beggared if I even have a clue what the castle was called!!! You turn right out of the campsite and that's as far as my memory will go Confused Off to google map ....

There is a very posh, very expensive miclhlin star one at the chateaux where the bod who led the Vendeans in the uprising lived.

Thank you both for your replies...hmmm, Flapping, the posh Michelin star one would be lovely I'm sure, but probably a bit too formal for us with small children in tow. Also, fine dining is a bit wasted on DH and myself - we're pretty casual types really! WillBillHal - could your place have been near Apremont castle? As far as I know it's the only castle in the area, we visited while there, was a nice outing. Will have to investigate!

There's a lovely family-run restaurant in La Mothe Achard, called Le Carabi. It's v trad French; v friendly. There's also a good pizzeria there.
