Camping and caravanning club

Ive just bought my first tent and am looking at sites to visit this year. I've decided my main holiday in the summer will be the lake district and I'll probably do a few weekends locally as well (Yorkshire/peak district).

I was looking at the camping and caravanning club website and they seem to have some nice sites with good locations and fairly cheap (well, definitely cheaper than a lakeside pitch at Low Wray NT in the lakes!)

My experience of the C and C club is from when my parents were members years ago and we used to take our caravan. There always seemed to be loads of rules, strict wardens and organised activities going on that you were expected to join in with. Is this still the case??? I'm quite happy keeping myself to myself and don't really want to be joining in with "club" activities.

What are your experiences of the C and C club, good or bad?
Thanks

We are members, only because a little certified site we like applies the membership rule.

We haven't stayed on one of their bigger sites but they do have plenty of small sites listed online, 5 at the back of a country pub type places in amazing locations.

I can't imagine that you have to join in activities tbh, I think that the site at Sandringham is one of their big sites, friends sometimes stay there when they visit us and they definitely don't join in with anything, not sure there is even anything on offer.

Your description reminds me of carry on camping Grin, I think that things were different 20 years ago.

I'm a member and so are my parents, I use the main sites and you aren't forced to join in any activities but my parents go to the rallies and holiday (temp) sites and they are more focused on joining in.

Thanks for your responses - glad to hear things have changed since I was a child! I think that it was rallies we used to take the caravan to.

I've looked at the cool camping website and got quite excited as there is a lovely looking campsite only 20 min away from where I live, pitches £5 a night, that I never even knew existed (Jerusalem Farm, near Hebden Bridge - if anyone's been, what do you think of it?)
I can't wait for a warm weekend so I can go up there and try out all my new stuff!
