Dilemma - to camp or not to camp?

As a plan B, to make up for our cancelled holiday, I just booked two nights camping in Devon. We're staying near where some friends have a holiday home.

Or friends have now said to stay with them at their place but the campsite is already booked and non-refundable.

On the one hand, I'd quite like to camp and also hate the thought of wasting the money (not loads but already feel like I've lost loads from the original cancelled holiday).

On the other hand, it'd be nice to stay with friends, not have to pack all the camping gear and deal with pitching the tent/packing it all away.

Oh and if it helps sway the vote, I've booked electric hookup for the first time (was going to be a treat :)))! ).

So, to camp or not to camp?

I'd camp but eat with friends where possible to make that side easier and pack less cooking/ eating equipment.

Can you walk to the campsite from theirs? That may sway me to camp regardless. Then you could have a glass of wine and walk back at night.

But if you have young DCs staying with them means you could pop them to bed and talk long into the evenings easier.

Plan to camp but if the weather forecast is rubbish the day before then stay with your friends. Money is spent either way but this way you're paying for the privilege of not having to camp in the rain Grin

The campsite is a couple of miles from their place but we could possibly get a taxi back in the evenings.

It'll be just me and ds (12) but was going to suggest that one of friends' dcs stay with us at night.

Part of me was looking forward to a couple of hours peace, once ds goes to bed but maybe, in reality, I'd be bored on my own!

Nonny - that option crossed my mind, too Grin

I like the idea of peace and my own space to escape to. And you have electric!

If it's not pouring, I say camp. But I'm bias. I love camping.
