I have seen a very nice <whisper> touring caravan.

It is perfect layout for us, and great value (£4,500). Plan would be to get a seasonal pitch and use it as a cheap alternative to a static caravan. But. We are campers by nature and I can't quite decide if this is the greatest idea ever or if the sun has gone to our heads a bit.

Would anyone like to persuade/dissuade me either way?!

Ohh I loved my touring caravan
broke my heart when the kids did not want to come any more and had to sell it
was a hobby umf and we had it on a seasonal pitch for 4 year before the kids got to old and did not want to come with mum and dad
do you have any kids ? what are their age ?

We have a touring van and love it! We wanted to get a seasonal pitch but was about £1200 for the season, so we store it there for £1/day and whenever we're free, and there's a pitch they tow it onto the pitch for us so it's there when we arrive. Just put legs down, plug it all in and away we go. Just come back from a wonderful 12 days in it and we're back at the end of the month for a few more days.
If that makes me a MN camping pariah so be it Grin

We have what might loosely be called a caravan - lots of gaffer tape ,bungee cord to keep door shut ,fridge doesn't work etc .

It's kept on a site ,like above £1 a day storage ,towed onto a pitch for us .
We sleep in tent next to it and use it as a sitting room and do a little cooking on the 2 gas burners .TBH if I had my time again I'd buy a better tent rather than caravan and have tent and equipment stored on site instead of caravan .

Thanks! After all the excitement, it turns out our car (Vauxhall Zafira) isn't big enough to tow the size of van we want/need :(

Trailer tent may be an option, do people get seasonal pitches for these?

Ive just had a weekend at a festival in my little caravan and I loved it!!

MegBusset · 04/08/2014 23:43

Quick update. Apparently DH has done some more research and our Zafira can tow this van as long as we don't overload it. Given that we only want to get it to a local site where it can stay pitched for the season and we can spend weekends there whenever the weather's nice, and since we live in Norfolk so steep hills aren't a problem, we think it should be OK.

The kids are 5 and 7 so the idea would be to use it until they are too old to want to come. It's a 2003 model but seems in good nick.

DH is going to call in the morning to see if it's still available. Am feeling a teeny bit excited (though trying not to) :)

what make is it? I love ours. However, I love the touring bit. Can't see the point in a tourer if its staying in one place - to me that's what static vans are for.

If you were on a seasonal pitch you'd want a seasonal awning - does one come with it?

MegBusset · 05/08/2014 08:10

The point is it's about 1/5 the price of a static caravan :)

It does come with an awning which we would probably take down between visits.

It's a Compass Corona 475, 5 berth, 2003 model :)
