Can you use memory foam topper in a tent + how to connect 2 Sims

Bought a Gelert 10cm Sim for my first camping trip and tested it out for one night recently. Woke up aching all over. It's a bit hard and narrow and I just couldn't get comfortable. Wondered whether it might be worth buying a memory foam topper to make it more comfortable, but I'm not sure whether you can use them in tents as surely lots of people would do this?!

Also, thinking about maybe attaching 2 sims together, but not sure if it would work as the Gelert slopes down on the edges. How would I go about it? If I put a sheet over the top, surely the sims will just slip away from each other? Could I fashion something out of velcro and/or duck tape?

Do whatever makes you comfortable! When we camp we have to take dH's van as our car isn't big enough for people and equipment. This means we have tons of space and take the mattresses off our beds. Much comfier! We also take a microwave toaster and kettle too. I'm not really a roughing it kind of girl!

We have 2 Dozers that fit together perfectly inside a single duvet cover to stop them sliding off in the night, works well.

Memory foam topper would be fine I'd imagine, bulky to transport though?

vajazzier I'm taking a kettle and toaster too and am contemplating buying a mini oven to take along if I can fit it in.

NonnyMuss that's an excellent idea to put the mats inside a duvet cover.

I looked at memory foam toppers yesterday and there's a double one 2.5 cm thick for £40 which looks very small in the box. But do they expand massively when you take them out and would it pack up small again for the trip home? I was also wondering whether there is something about memory foam that would make it unsuitable for tents? Not sure also 2.5 cm would be enough depth to make a difference?

I think memory foam does expand when unwrapped . Also it's a bit fumey/smelly to begin with which might be disconcerting in an enclosed space .

Wonder if duvets under you would help ?

Might be a stupid suggestion that you've already tried but did you try not inflating the SIMs fully? Dh always has to do everything properly inflates ours fully and I have to let half the air out to make it comfortable

gingeroots I've got some old duvets, so could give this a try as I hadn't thought about the smell of a new mattress!

FantasticMrsFox do you mean the travel vacuum bags? Are they any good? A friend told me that they don't work, but maybe she used a cheap make.

NonnyMuss I haven't tried that...I left it out for 24 hours so it was fully inflated! Maybe that is all I need to do! I'll test it out today!

I always blow into our SIMs once they are fully self-inflated, to give extra support.

For those of you who have loads of space and need a thick foam mattress, what about something like this? I have one that I got form Lidl for about £25 and we use for child guests, rather than camping.

Blu that looks perfect! Unfortunately, I haven't got the space in my car!

I've been using my SIM on a camp bed which gives a bit more "give" as it were! Downside being a camp bed is also bulky, but a good night's sleep is top priority for me.

CrispyFB I'll take a look at camp beds and see if we could fit one in the car.

Would a SIM on top of an air bed work?
