Fisherground campsite in the holidays. Is it rammed?

Just that. Am I mad to have my eye on this site for the school holidays?

Particularly as we are weather watchers and will only make a decision whether to go last minute.

We were there in the Whit week, which the warden said was the busiest week of the year. It was busy but not rammed. There was a queue for the showers in the mornings but it was fine really. The were tents all over the field but we still had plenty room, we didn't feel hemmed in.

Lots of children for the kids to play with, they had a ball.

The wardens are a bit in your face, constantly but apart from that, it's a great campsite. Our DCs are 7,3,1.

Thanks for that. We might still go. Don't mind having showers later in the day (or not at all).

Although they'll probably be booked up now!

Omg - we went about two years ago. It. Was. Rammed.
Seriously, it was like being at a festival without any bands. Cost about the same too.
We were put right at the entrance to the camping field (because you don't get a choice about where you pitch) so everyone wwas tripping over our guys, and we got to enjoy the ambience of the cars rumbling in and out as well.
The facilities were swamped with people, and the queues were phonomenal.

I reviewed it on UKcampsite. Would never go back.

The wardens were militant as well.

Our experience was like pictish. We renamed the wardens camping nazis. Just sucked the joy out of what is meant to be fun with their supercilious manner and endless rules.

In the end we had one of the better pitches in the far corner of the field after we complained that it wouldn't be possible to have a fire where they had originally sited us as we were far too close to other tents for it to be safe.

Boys had a great time and keep asking when we'll go back. You couldn't pay me to go again unless it was out of school holidays.

They go out on regular patrols to issue tellings off to people, buzzing about on their quad bikes, and shouting on their walkie talkies, all dead important like.
Never seen anything like it.

The wardens were arses, I admit. It's the only time I have ever seen anything like it!

And the pond and playground aren't that good. They're small and crowded with kids who won't share the handful of rafts there are.

I gave Fisherground 4 stars out of 10 on UKcampsite. All four of those stars are for location, which is undeniably lovely.

It's the most expensive campsite we've ever stayed at - £28.50 per night! That included the £5 per night school holiday "just because we can" surcharge.
Sadly, Fisherground believes its own hype, and thinks nothing of charging over the odds to treat you as though you are privileged to be granted admittance to their cattle pen of a campsite.

I wish we'd stayed at this campsite just along the road instead. It looked really nice, wasn't teeming, and would have offered a perfect riverside pitch, for cheaper. No fires there sadly, but neither a squad of quad biking, walkie talkie touting jobsworths getting in your face either.

It is nice that you can have a fire but that is the only god thing really. Very poor toilet/ shower block considering how many people they cater for. The caravan and camping club campsite just down the road is nicer and more friendly.

Well, we went anyway as I'd booked before the rest of the negative comments flooded in!

And yes, it was rammed and they really don't have enough facilities for the hundreds of people on site. Queues for showers, toilets and washing up.

BUT, we had a great time! We were in a good plot with plenty of space (though could see that other tents were packed in in some parts of the site).

No problems with the wardens at all, didn't see them telling anyone off or even shushing. We were all sat around our camp fire chatting at 11.30.

And the kids (6 and 8) loved the adventure playground and the freedom to go off and play safely on their own for hours.
