Can anyone recommend a good campsite please?! We're meeting friends who live in London, we're from West Wales so halfwayish would be, I guess, Wiltshire, Bath area? We'd normally go to the coast as the beach = easy days out and childcare, but perhaps somewhere with woods, lots of walking, rivers etc would be a good alternative? Facilities-wise, basic loos, showers, somewhere to freeze ice packs is all we need really. We have 3 dcs, in age from 2-14, as well as a dog. Thankyou!

Abbotstone and Inwood?

(I am a bit hazy about geography in the Wiltshire-ish area - i.e where it is)

postern hill? in Savernake forest just outside Marlborough.

I always think it's quite spendy, but it's a fab location, miles of forest to explore, and Marlborough is lovely for a wander when you've had enough of nature.

also only 20 mins or so from the M4 so handy for you both .

no rivers though sadly

Friends with younger children really love this site near Westbury in Wilts Brokerswood Country Park.

Suggest Stowford Manor Farm just outside bath, no fires sadly but idykllic location on the river. Paddling and river swimming very popular here. Also they have fab cream teas! Not sure about dogs though.

Was going to suggest Stowford Manor if kids are school age but not if younger - river is right there and if you have little ones you'd be in a state of high anxiety!

Thanks all, deciding between Brokerswood and Stowford at the moment but coming down on the side of Stowford - will just have to have a complicated system of windbreaks to pen the toddler in or perhaps we could clip him onto the dog ground spike
