Vintage caravan plus bell tent?

Hi,
I've been thinking of trading in my Outwell for a bell tent for some time now. However, I had an idea last night and did a little internet research.

I've always had a hankering for a little caravan. I was always a den kind of child... I like small, cosy spaces. The kind of caravans I like are an older style and I've looked at 2 berth even though there are 4 of us ( plus dog). My idea would be to still get the bell tent and transport it in the caravan, then pitch it by the side, with a tarp as a porch.

Has anyone bought an older caravan and successfully used it for holidays? I get the whole summer off, but DH doesn't, so if we were in this country, he could dip in and out of holidays.

If we wanted to go further afield, we could do that in the Whit or Oct holidays when it's cheaper.

Whaddaya think? Smile

Sounds lovely , I have a friend that looked into it - using the bell as sleeping/ living all glamped up and the caravan as the transporter/ kitchen tent.

Then they enquired with various campsites re: pitches.
Sadly all said it would be 2 pitches, so double the cost to camp as it would be counted as '2 separate units'.

My friend reluctantly has shelved the idea. :-(

I did wonder about that onaroll. Seems daft when a caravan with awning would only be one pitch...

We'd only use both if we were all going, so generally it would just be the caravan I suppose.

Haha tyaca! I've already messaged Sharon, who customises those caravans! They're ace aren't they? She hasn't got one for sale at the moment, but I'm watching that space!

Just get a caravan. I've an oldish caravan and a bell tent. Never use the tent anymore.

The ease of being able to pull up on site, put the legs down, plug the leccy cable in and brew up is amazing. Dry, snug, flushing loo, warm, comfy, oven, fridge, shower, TV. Its the best.

Oh my goodness. Those little caravans of Sharon's are just gorgeous Envy
