5m bell tent. Where is yours from?

We've finally (after much backing and forthing and drawing circles in chalk on the road outside our house) decided that we want a 5m bell tent, for us and 3 DC.

I am 95% sure we want a ZIG, too.

Do you have one? Where's it from? Are you happy with it?

We got our 4m here (I know you asked about 5m specifically, sorry, but I love ours!)

Very happy with it! We went for the separate ground sheet for easier drying.

Soulpad. Mines a 5m, zig. I've been very happy with it.

Obelink and it is the version with a separate groundsheet. Ours slipped through on a computer malfunction as they strictly don't export to the UK but if you happen to be in holiday somewhere on mainland Europe, or know someone who lives there, they will deliver there. The savings can be big (or used to be at least) but bigger on the basic model than the ZIG I seem to recall.

I have a 4m from Pukka Tents- they do also 5m. Slightly pricer but it's the heavier weight canvas with the flue hole for a stove already sorted and a mosquito door, all of which was on my list for camping in Scotland winter/summer. It is fabulous, I am very happy with it.

I gather from the Facebook group a lot of placces are out of stock, generally. Tis the festival season, I suppose.

Yeah, I'm fairly resigned to not getting one for this summer, annoyingly, but I don't want to put it off like I did last year and end up in the same situation again next year!

Will check all the brands suggested and compare price/weight/durability/whatever you're meant to when looking at tents, thanks for the ideas!

I have 5 m ZIG from Karma Canvas. I bought it last year. Only used it for 1 weekend so far - no problems. At that time they were not only the cheapest but also unlike others had an extra mesh door. It protects you from insects and also gives you more natural light inside without losing privacy.

Kmski · 09/07/2014 20:48

... don't get me wrong - bell tents are usually quite light inside anyway - in fact too light in the morning. But having mesh does help- with ventilation etc when you need to stay in the tent which can get a bit warm on a sunny day.

5m zig with 1/4 inner. Soul pad.

Soulpad 5m Zig. Ours is an old model and has a built in mesh inner door. Gets stuck on the velcro occasionally but is wonderful.

Only thing I would be cautious about is do you have room to dry your tent indoors/put it up in the garden to dry (as you mention drawing circles in the road)? And if you get a SIG you will have to make sure the bottom is completely bone-dry before you pack it away or disaster will ensue.

We have a 5 metre Soul Pad, pegged in groundsheet. It's lovely though it does take up room in the boot. (and needs a trolley for festivals.) Agree with Lovecat that in many ways, separate ground sheets area easier. Mine is slightly speckled with black mildew, and I've always kept it separate from the canvas. I shudder to think how manky the tent might have got if I'd had it in with the obviously slightly wet groundsheet.
