do you pack your tent into the car in its bag?

I'm thinking it would be easier to pack if we don't put it in its bag and keep the main bit easily accessible and the bedrooms separate. it is just so massive in its bag.

is this what everyone does or a fab idea or just plain stupid and, therefore why?

thanks

We've always packed our huge tent in the roof box, so that when taking it down, if it's wet, it doesn't soak everything else in the car. We also keep it in the bag, but I can see where you are coming from. I think the only risk when keeping it separate is the possibility of something else in the boot of the car damaging it. It only takes the sharp edge of something to catch it and your tent would be ruined.

that's a good point. I had only considered that we might forget something vital like the poles.

two reasons therefore now...

but it takes up soooo much space!
