Thought I'd pop back and tell you all how it went in L'Escale St Gilles, Benodet. Essentially...
We had a BALL!
Kids loved it (3 and 5) dd cried when we were leaving. Pool was fab for them, whole slide climbing frame in shallow pool was just marvellous! I could sit and sun myself and watch, they could run around and play. Lovely small beach also right outside the gate, brilliant. Scooted everywhere, kids made loads of friends
. Area is lovely, weather was v mixed really but there is loads to do. We went to the ww2 submarine base in lorient one day, really recommend it. Concarneau and Quimper also fab. Tried to go to a labyrinth but tbh it was too hard to extract the kids from the campsite.
We stayed with kelair, mercure mobile, basic enough tbh, but on plus side bigger than I expected and endless hot water. The sunelia mobiles looked fabulous.
We didn't really go to the evening entertainments or use the kids club. We ate once at the restaurant and found the food good and reasonable although the service could be a bit chaotic. Pool opening times strangely limited (11-7), shop well stocked but closed on the afternoon, noise well controlled we thought, it was quiet come 1130pm or so. We were v close to the pool and bar and was a bit worried but it was fine, we weren't disturbed at all. Local supermarket large and well stocked and no dearer than the big hypermarche in quimper. Save your time and shop local imo. Biggest regret I have is we didn't make it to the local market. We were too busy lounging about
The village is lovely, really pleasant simple place, restaurants, lighthouse, beach, river, carosel at end of prom. Oh and the ice cream. You have to have some
What else? Oh yes they have a concert every friday night in the village, full on outdoor gig, half of brittany seems to arrive out of the blue, it was great fun. Be sure not to miss it if you go! This being france it wasn't advertised anywhere. Think there are fireworks on a thursday but we missed those so not entirely certain.
Def recommend, if the weather had been just a bit better we'd go back. And I think we were just a bit unlucky. Last year it was in the mid 20s but this year it really hovered more around 19 /20 degrees and there was rain every day.
Regardless, we were v sad to have to go, dd says she wants to live there and we came with brochures to plan next year's effort, further south this time gotta chase the sun
