Western Loire specifically, thinking of staying near blois. The municipal there does not have a pool and the reviews about thefts in municpals are making me nervous. The is an indigo campsite but it is wildly expensive. Pool on site or nearby is a necessity. Thank you

Not sure how close you need to be to Blois. We stayed at Le Chant d'Oiseau in Mouliherne last year and it was fantastic.

It's very reasonable price and according to Internet about 1.5 hours from Blois.

That does look lovely but we are staying in Saumur after and it is too close.

Look at Castels Camping - we have stayed at lots of their sites and they are always good. Quite a few in the Loire.

Ferme de Prunay is lovely.

cheerup · 21/06/2014 07:57

Or Château des Marais if you want more amenities

Second Ferme du Prunay. We sort of go out of our way on trips around France just so we can include a stay there. If you want a quieter pitch...ask for one at the back. Saying that it's the quietest site we've stayed on...there are a lot of Dutch families so it's full on play time through the day but you could hear a pin drop when the sun goes down. Possibly our favourite French site.

Also stayed in a fair few Castels and the only one we've not liked was the one at Le Mans. Noisy till too late at night and people not cleaning up after selves in loos/showers and kitchen areas.
Other side but Kawan site at Lac d'Orient is fab and we now go out of our way on the east side to stay there!!

Thanks everyone! Prunay it is!

I'm really jealous now as we won't get this year!! Last year there were baby goats in the field and you could go in and pet them. Though DH was going to 'kid'nap them and take them home!!
