OK, where shall we go? Fires allowed, near London?

First camping w/e of the season coming up. It's a weekend and we're in London so it has to be do-ble on a Fri eve.
Fires allowed, woods ajoining the site a big plus, quite, natural, but 'no toilets' is a step too far.

Not Forgewood. (been there too often).

Tempt me with your favourites!

Abbotstone woods, sister site to forgewood is good but basic.

hillbilly · 18/06/2014 14:22

I second Abbotstone Woods! Also Alfriston camping park near Brighton although traffic might be an issue on a Friday.

Chafford Park is recommended on here and is near Forgewood I understand.

How about Stubcroft Farm? Have not been but it comes recommended and we are going in August. In fact please go so you can give me the lowdown!

I'm very envious - I would love to be camping this weekend. Have fun Smile

Wowo?

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/06/2014 14:24

St Ives farm is nice too (loos a bit basic maybe but they definitely have them).

hillbilly · 18/06/2014 14:27

Kitts Camp is on my wish list and I think they have a few sites in the area.

CharmQuark · 18/06/2014 15:15

Thank you all - they all look excellent and some have been on my wish-list for a while..I will think..and whatever we do, report back!

Secret Campsite although probably booked up eons ago!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/06/2014 16:39

Actually, this place has always tempted me due to the panoramic sea view promise and the fact it also allows fires: www.kingsdowncamping.co.uk/

Never been though so I am afraid I cannot provide any helpful review. If you do go though, please do report back....

CharmQuark · 18/06/2014 16:56

Haven't been, but I know people who have been to Kingsdown and raved about it. They said it was windy, but loved the sea view and spectacular setting. Also not crowded.

Can third Abbotstone Woods.

CharmQuark · 19/06/2014 20:59

I'm really liking the look of Abbotstone. Might be a teeny bit far? Or is it easy peasy and fast once you get on the M3? All routes out of S London on a Friday after school are terrible, I think.

This place is a bit special www.barefootcampsites.co.uk/, or Britchcombe Farm nr Swindon a short hop down the M4 www.britchcombefarm.co.uk/. Also Inwood www.inwoodcamping.co.uk/ (sister to Abbotstone but even bigger!) How about this one in Sussex. www.ecocampuk.co.uk/

CharmQuark · 19/06/2014 22:12

I now want to go to ALL these...

The eco camp near hastings is very lovely and definitely do-able on a friday (we've done it before from SE London on a Friday after school and got there in plenty of time to pitch up and get the fire going before dark). There's also a site much nearer in Surrey- I haven;t been but have been meaning to check it out. HAng on let me find it...
here it is: etherleyfarm.co.uk/index.php/camping/
you can have fires here and definitely not far to drive... Box Hill nearby which is lovely.

hillbilly · 19/06/2014 22:17

Abbotstone very easy to get to. HZ I like the look of ecocampuk. Also how far away from pitch do you have to park at barefoot? We have so much gear I never fancy anywhere that I have to lug it in a wheelbarrow!

Plumpippin · 19/06/2014 22:34

I can highly recommend www.kingsdowncamping.co.uk/ we live in the area and frequently camp at the site with friends. Good shower and toilet facilities, campfires allowed and the most amazing views across the channel. You are also only a few minutes away from the beach and a couple of lovely pubs.

CharmQuark · 19/06/2014 23:10

Kitts is booked, Eco is booked, Secret is booked...

Abbotstone looking v likely.... and will be a change from our usual Sussex patch.
