Lightning and Bell tent (big metal pole)

We have our bell tent but it has never occurred to me about the metal pole and what danger we would be in, if lightning is close by in a storm....

The car would be a safe place to be I suppose, but would we be in danger?

Is your tent floor rubberised? We have a canvas tent with a central metal pole but not a bell tent and the base of it is kind of like an inner tyre. I've naively assumed we'd be fine because of that...I'm not very scientific...you can probably tell?! Def not under a tree...I know that much!

camp in the woods!!
Im not sure about the rubber floor Claire ... Id been wondering myself. Our site is near a wind turbine, so I am hoping that would take any close hits!

The conductivity of tent poles is a non issue because lightning hits all sorts of non-conductive things. You are over thinking!

Hi, just back from a week camping! Some rain but overall, it was lovely!

We have a rubberised groundsheet and also the pole has rubber ends, so not sure if that means it's fine or not!!

In the grand scheme of things, I am probably overthinkingSmile
