Hi, we live in Manchester and are looking for a cool campsite to visit at the end of May, somewhere within a few hours drive.

We like field type camping, relaxed. Have young children, so somewhere we could go for walks and then just let them play.

Haven't really done much UK camping in our area, so any recommendations would be appreciated! ThanksGrin

Shell Island in North Wales.

Thanks. I had heard that it was big and rowdy and popular with big groups drinking - not sure whether that is accurate though.

Did you find it family friendly? Thanks

The last time I was at Shell Island there was a stabbing in the toilets! The further away from the facilities the nicer it is so not best for camping with small children. Worth a visit for some crabbing and to see what you think if you are in the area though.

Grr, posted too soon. Manorafon Farm near Rhyl is good, easy distance from Manchester and last year we went to

Leisure Lakes in Tarleton, near to Southport. Very relaxed campsite, electric hookup if required. Open fires allowed. big park for the kids to play in right next to the pub I only live half an hour away from it and go every few weeks! £17 a night per pitch, £10 deposit for the shower key, but you get that back. They do charge for the showers though, 20p for a few minutes

Sorry, having computer issues! Last year we went to Vale of Pickering Caravan Park in North Yorkshire which had a fabulous playground although not in view of the camping field. Our next trip is to Seiont Riverside Camping in Snowdonia which looks lovely and ticks all your boxes. Not able to link due to said issues. Good luck!
