Hi I know that this is a frequent topic, but wondered if anyone could suggest a good campsite in southern Brittany? we have 5 year old, may be going with one other family with same age child. Looking for pools, play area, near beach, possibly kids clubs - not much then! Am looking at Les Deux Fontaines which I have seen mentioned on here and have also found Camping Le Kervilor near Carnac which looks nice but no recent reviews.

Also, any tips for travel / camping in France would be gratefully received. Been camping several times but this is the first trip abroad. Thanks!

Carnac is very busy place. Recommend Benodet or Fouessnant. Driving in france is lovely but in high summer roads on Friday and Saturday to tourist hotspots can be very busy especially round tolls. Aires which are like motorway stop offs are frequent and excellent but be aware that they vary as to facilities. Basic ones will be nicer but with um basic loos and no shop or anything. They all have individual quirks though. Bigger ones have good facilitis but the french stop everything for lunch so they are heaving at lunch time. Fight for a picnic table! what port are you going to?

Tolls vary but the Port de Normandie and another couple of bridges require cash thrown into a collecting machine thingy. Collect euros and two euro pieces and keep them in a glove compartment.

Shopping trolleys all need a euro in the slot so keep one in the car.

It's all rather lovely. We've done Brittany several times. Rennes is a bottleneck. Try and travel sunday or mid week if you can.

have you looked at ukcampsites.co.uk for reviews?

agree with what flappings says about not travelling on a sat in school hols. avoid rennes at all costs - there is another route you can take to carnac etc that is pretty good that goes no-where near it - further north i think.

carnac - depends when you are going - in june its not busy - we've had beaches almost to ourselves - enough room for cricket and football. carnac is our fav area as you also have gulf de morbihan. les deux fontaines is a nice site - but we had a mobile so not sure about tents.

Foret de fouesnant is lovely safe area with lots of walks and stuff to do and only 10 mins from concarnaeu which is brilliant for kids in summer, lots if street entertainers etc. we've used several campsites there and all good value and great facilities. Travel wither on a Thursday or a Sunday and it you can afford the long overnight ferry that adds to the fun otherwise it's ok from Calais. Do not drive on Saturdays in July or August!
