Campsites in the New Forest & their costs

I'm hoping to go camping in the may half term (only ever been camping once before). I've been looking at the new forest area. A week's camping with EHU is coming up as 280+ for me & DS (6)....... ! This works out as 40 / night & I am finding this to be very expensive. Is this the going rate for camping then?

Please can you recommend a reasonably priced campsite with good facilities in the new forest please? I NEED EHU.

We stayed at Red Shoot a few years ago. A pitch is £28pn including 2 people and a car this year.

It has a fab pub at the entrance that does nice beer and delicious homecooked takeaway food. And the washrooms have under floor heating which feels like sheer luxury.

Very handy for the beach and aquarium at Bournemouth. And Paultons Theme Park/Peppa Pig World.

That's all I remember really. DH loved it, we would go back.

Ah, just saw EHU is an extra £6.50 per night.

We stay at Red shoot every year. It really it one of the best campsites and the people and pub are lovely! I think the prices have risen a little since Quenelle went but it is worth it!

Round Hill is lovely. Ponies come up to your tent :)

P.S. We have never done EHU but it is available there.

Goodness I'll have a look at Round Hill, thanks for the recommendation.

The £28 for pitch and £6.50 for EHU was from this year's tarif. But it adds up, doesn't it? £34.50 per night for camping seems so much.

That's exactly what I thought! And if I want to use my awning then it's an additional 32 for my stay :(

I need EHU as I feel the cold very easily & want to take my heater. PLus charging the phone & other gadgets that I may have.

Are you in the Caravan and Camping Club (or the other club)? I've found club sites are generally a bit better value for money.

We stayed at Roundhill last year for a weekend and it was lovely - watch out for the ponys thought - they are vicious and kick just at childrens head height, the children forget they are wild

Try Long Meadow. It's a cracking site and much cheaper than the Forest Holidays/ CCC sites. It can't be faulted IMO. It's opposite Holland Wood on the other side of the road between Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst.

We stayed at Greenhill Farm a few times last year and are planning on it being our first trip this year.
Only a small site but lovely.

Long Meadow is coming up at £34 a night that week including EHU and an awning. I think adding on those two is really pushing your price up.

Are you in a caravan that you need an awning?

We stayed at Long Meadow last summer and although I'm usually someone who considers EHU essential we made do without it there.

The facilities are so fantastic, we were really comfortable and had a really fun time.

I really fancy the New Forest but am put off by the possibility of ticks and Lyme's Disease.

Have people found ticks to be a problem in the New Forest?

I can really recommend joining the camping and caravanning club - we've definitely got our money's worth with the cheaper campsites, ferry discounts and using their campervan insurance. We've booked Verwood in August this year for £32 a night for 4 of us including ehu and an awning. I've never stayed there but the sites of there's that I have stayed on are well run and clean. Last year we stayed at Holmsley (a camping in the forest site) but I can't say I was overly impressed - it was ok but nothing special for the price.

We didn't notice any ticks when we were there.
