Campsite for a group of 8 families in the middle somewhere

In trying to organise a camping weekend for a group of friends. We've found a weekend we ca all do (11th July...) now I need to find a suitable campsite. It's for 8 couples / families, with total of 8 children. We don't need lots of facilities, just showers/toilets and some space for children to run around. I hope we won't be too noisy but somewhere we have to be silent after a certain time isn't going to be popular... Somewhere we could have the whole site or a field would be perfect.

We're spread from Hampshire up to Sheffield so I was thinking the Cotswolds sort of area would be good, but very flexible.

Any recommendations?

Bosworth county park near Leicester has done our group camping weekend well for last 2 years. There is a water-sports club for kids 7+ On sat morning, for about £10 each they had 2 hours tuition, great fir kids and relaxing for parents. Can also hire boats, has a beach and playground. The park did get very busy during the day last year, but it was the hottest weekend of the year, and the campsite was seperate so quieter. Ditto noisier than usual in the evening but mainly because it was very hot so none went to bed early, us included!

Thanks melrose it does look good, but the reviews on ukcampsite suggest a but crowded and full. What time of year have you visited?

Following as we are in the same position. However ranging from Derbyshire to Lincolnshire. Also looking for somewhere that doesn't mind noise. We went to one in Cromer last year that was fab but a long way from Derbyshire (and Hampshire) so looking more central this year.

Clumber Park between Sheffield and Nottingham, close to M1.

Shell island in Wales springs to mind?

I went in July and the park was packed during the day, as it was so hot, but the campsite wasn't, although it was full. People outside in groups chatting till 11ish (including us!) but my 1 year old still managed to sleep soundly through it.

Year before went at the same time, weather not great and it was very quiet.

I am also watching with interest as I need to find somewhere for our group this year as we want a change. Need to be within an hour of nottingham

Melrose - see my link to clumber Park then, it's within an hour of Nottingham .

We had a field to ourselves at Barn Farm for a birthday party- we did arrange it beforehand and they were very helpful.

North wakes is a little far, especially as the same group have a wedding near there earlier in the year!

The Matlock one sounds great but it's quite a long way. We are the ones coming all the way from Hampshire! ;)

Bosworth water sounds good though.

Have you cosidered private camping - where a company comes to an arrangement with a landowner for you and sets up a pop up campsite just for you including toilets, water, space to hang out togther undercover etc. There is one I know of in the Lake District called The Private Camping Company, might be abit far for you but I bet there are others around the country. Might be worth doing a seach on 'private camping'.

Maybe something like this that hires out a field for larger groups.

jennimoo · 28/01/2014 06:46

That one looks great, I'll have a look to see if I can find something similar more central. Did you search 'private campsite'?

searched 'campsite with private field to hire' or variations thereof.
