Ok so what tent do you have & do you use the same tent for week + holidays & weekend? & how many people stay in your tent?

I much prefer one of the Aspens, they have more head height and seem much lighter inside than the Diablo, they do all pitch inner first, does this matter to you?

Ok ok have had to change my mind again, i went to a camping place today & the man suggested that they used to have the aspens but there was a leakage problem with them with water leaking through the seams, this has obviously put me right off.

We went in to a outwell hartford XL tent & loved it though so it looks like it is going to be one of these.

I never thought finding a tent would be so hard, but there is so much choice & we just want to get it right IYKWIM

LucyCampCat - is that a problem?

Looking for a tent too

emily05 · 28/07/2006 16:36

I love my tent it is this one here sewn in ground sheet and massive for the three of us (we are greedy with space! lol)

LucyCampCat · 28/07/2006 16:40

only if it's raining - then your inner tent will get wet before you put the outer 'skin' over it - or you could always go to the pub and wait for the rain to stop!

Just some people will only go for outer first or all in ones!

LucyCampCat · 28/07/2006 16:41

ooh Emily I like the sound of 'roof loft tent tidy' - a tent with an attic, how useful is that!

Gillian76 · 28/07/2006 16:48

Am feeling a bit out of my depth!

So easy to make a faux pas...

Is it completely inconceivable to pitch a tent on one's own wih 3 children in tow?

I started a thread yesterday about my DH not wanting to go camping. Was wondering about taking the children myself when he's away next month.

Mad???

LucyCampCat · 28/07/2006 17:17

How old are your children?

Gillian76 · 28/07/2006 17:24

6,5,3

Gillian76 · 28/07/2006 17:25

Would this be any use?

LucyCampCat · 28/07/2006 18:13

Well your older 2 might well be able to help (holding a pole or the tent pegs at crucial moments) something with an Easy Set up system looks like a good idea. Can you see one set up anywhere to give you an idea of size?

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 18:16

I have just come back from a holiday without dh and managed to put up the Colorado 8 on my own.....and pack it away [proud emoticon nedded]

LucyCampCat · 28/07/2006 20:07

much respeck mb!

How did you do the old holding one end/pegging it out while putting the next set of legs into their pins?

marthamoo · 28/07/2006 20:09

Do you have weirdly long arms, mb?

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 20:45

Yes in reality I am an orangutan!

Just pinned one side and then went round an pinned the other. Some of them poped out, but not all of them.

Then raise the teant when you have the first one done and temporeraly pin out the guys to keep it upright. Re position it all at the end. Easy!

didn't get it all back in the bag though, but as the tent was wet I didn't feel that I had to do that. Tent is drying as I type!

marthamoo · 28/07/2006 20:47

Where have you been that it rained?

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 20:49

West wales. It was a 'mizzle' this morning when we got up, and started to rain in earnest just as I got the tent into the back of the car!

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 20:49

sun shone all the reat of the time. We had an ace time!

marthamoo · 28/07/2006 20:50

Whereabouts? Or have you done your review and I've missed it?

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 20:54

it is up on 'camping' Dolbryn near newcastle emlyn. Wonderful family site. Bev the co owner could be one of the nicest of mnetters!

marthamoo · 28/07/2006 20:56

Dh used to live in Newcastle Emlyn. I shall go and read it now.

Gillian76 · 29/07/2006 10:41

Lucy, do you reckon the Vango Venture 500 would take 4 of us on airbeds in the bedroom?

Scoobydooooo · 29/07/2006 12:30

Gillian76 - If you go on www.ukcampsite.co.uk & join up you can ask questions all about camping it's great there are loads of people on there & some are v v experenced in camping it may be worth a try.

Yep, we can fit a double and 2 single airbeds in the bedroom. It's quite a long bedroom so there is room at the head of the beds for rucksacks etc.
