We're going on our first trip as a family next week with dcs 7&3.
We haven't been camping since pre dcs when we had a tiny 2 man tent and took virtually nothing with us, the last time was 3 wks before dd1 was born.

We bought a 6 man tent from go outdoors at the weekend, plus sleeping mats and bags for all of us.
We have a small camping stove already.
We're thinking we need to get a table and chairs min. as well.

Which type of chair is best? We reserved a couple of folding camping chairs but had a call to say they've sold out, so dh was thinking inflatable ones but I'm not convinced.
What else will make it a more comfortable, happy experience?

We're going away for 4 nights near Longleat, and in the future I expect we'll do one longer and several 1-2 night trips a year (if all goes wellWink)

I've read good tips about buckets, dressing gowns etc and we're keen to learn anything that will make it easier!

Thank you Thanks

Just returned from our first trip which was two nights long.

Don't forget enough sleeping bags or bedding Blush Due to a misunderstanding between ds2 and me, we only had three sleeping bags between five of us which was no fun at all!

Lots of socks for the dc's. Flip flops for the showers.

We had this table and stool set plus three umbrella style fold up chairs which were very comfy.

Would definitely bring some sort of bucket for night wees.

Actually one thing I was sorry I didn't have was a proper camera. My phone ran out of charge, had forgotten the charger so got very few photos.

Either a small barbecue or a folding fire-pit. I saw people burning fire-logs on theirs and it looked very cosy.

Oh no!! How did you manage with 2 sleeping bags short?! Shock

Thank you! Flip flops etc added to the list!

We have a BBQ to take and also we can hire a fire pit which we'll do at least a couple of nights I think!

Got some tips from my lovely hair dresser yesterday who is a seasoned camper, mainly about lights and food.
Feeling very excited!

The big boys had a sleeping bag each, I unzipped the third one and put the smaller boys in it and I had to go without! I have discovered that towels don't make good blankets.
AND the airbed deflated!

Oh WeAreSeven - how awful. At least all future trips can only get better Grin

Even the next night was better. We went and bought a double sleeping bag in a neighbouring town. Much warmer although the airbed deflated again. It went in the campsite bin!
